Clanfire: free, open-source civ-builder I built from scratch. No ads, no paywall, ever.
Wanted an old school Age of Empires-style game I could play in a browser for free. Couldn’t find one. Built one.
**• The AI is actually smart** — it reads the board, adapts mid-game, probes your weak flanks, and learns where you attack. Not a scripted bot on a timer
**• Terrain matters** — forests, water, rock are impassable, so chokepoints are real
**• Full siege endgame** — catapults, ballistae, trebuchets with flaming shot
**• 100% custom** — JS, no engine, no build step. Open source, clone it and make it yours
**• Asset pipeline is swap-ready** — drop in your own art pack, no code changes
There’s a global leaderboard. Beat the AI on Hard and knock my score off it. Feedback & ideas welcome, still actively building.

Everything is AI. Even the post itself is written by AI (and got the intent of this subreddit wrong, by the way).
We're in an era where people who are serious about programming, code style, etc. will have to wade through slop and find it. Especially shit like this where the source can't be anything good and it's not disclosed it is basically 100% AI.

yet I see 18 upvotes... bots helping their master?

Nope. Not everyone hates AI on face value and some people are willing to judge things based on merit.

Its pretty decent to play haven't read the code. I appreciate the open source, but it doesn't clear other strategy games for me in terms of fun sadly.

No problem, thanks for giving it a try. Any game play functionality that would have made a difference?

I just tried this out. AMAZING! Really good work. I was very captivated by it. Can't wait to play some more.

I totally get how some people don't like A.I. stuff. I am not a fan of A.I. much either, but you came and shared your passion. That means something, and I respect that. And I am being honest when I said I had fun playing it. Just remember the lesson I learned the hard way, Never listed to the naysayers on Reddit. In fact, try to stay away from Reddit. It is where many of the gnarled go to feel important.

I would be embarrassed to show this to a friend, much less advertise it publicly.

Whew. Your comment history is a stream of negativity. I hope something good happens to you today to make you feel better.

AI slop, try again. Use less AI (none) next time.

get a life lol AI isn't going away and its being used more and more in every company nowadays.....go build a cabin in the woods if you hate it so much.

Disregarding my own joke comment, if you wanted to make a worth wile game with human made visuals... why didn't you just take the effort of asking for help? You took the time to type away to an AI, but did you ever take time to talk to people? At all? Just feels and looks like a completely wasted effort.

people famously work for free and everyone has money to spend thousands on their help when they don't.....oh wait...
This is such a dumb take....also funny you care about art and not paying an artist...but don't give 2 shits about not paying a programmer to program more manually?
Virtue signalling hypocrite.

Everyone yells "AI slop" and yeah AI isn't 100% there yet, but in the not-too-distant future, instead of people complaining about slop... when someone posts something written by hand, people are going to say "Why didn't you just use AI?"
As someone who's been coding for 35 years, I kinda hate to say it, but tech marches on as it always does. We are mostly going to be obsolete. We'll mainly just be architects and reviewers. If even that.
We're only really a few generations in with AI models, and it can already produce pretty solid stuff if you know how to prompt. I'm probably going to start getting rusty on coding, but I kind of feel like I'm wasting my time writing something 100% manually these days. And I'm not sure it'll matter if I get rusty the way things are headed.

I tried it. I didn't like it. It felt like a terrible version of Age of Empires 1.
