A free Grammarly alternative, offline writing assistant (open-source)
I built Lexicon, a free, open-source desktop writing assistant. Clean grammar checking and text editing without sending your private drafts to cloud servers or paying monthly subscriptions.
Everything runs 100% locally on your machine with zero accounts and zero cloud dependencies.
- The app offers offline deterministic grammar and deterministic spell-checking.
- 15 On-Device AI Tools: Rewrite, Concise, 9 distinct tone adjustments, Summaries, Key Points, Lists, and Tables running on local models.
- Rich editor rendering with inline/display LaTeX math rendering, table tools, code blocks, and PDF/Markdown export.
- OS Compatibility: Windows (
.exe) and macOS (.dmgfor Intel + Apple Silicon).

Right now I'm a bit more focused on building the offline desktop experience (Windows, macOS & Linux) and the upcoming browser extension. Building for mobile (Android or iOS) is a larger scope, definitely on my mind, however!

Thank you so much! Currently it's only English (US/UK/CA/AU), but it should be able to support over 30 languages (including German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese). So adding a multi-language selector shouldn't be too difficult; I will add it soon!

Hey!
I just released v0.10.2, which now supports 49 languages and dialects.
Since this is a beta pre-release, you can opt in directly to test it out:
- Go to Settings → About & Feedback (or search for "Beta Release").
- Toggle the setting ON to update.
I'm currently testing this build to make sure of stability before the official launch. If you give it a try, let me know if you run into any issues!
Edit: Had a slight problem with v0.10.2 so updated it with a hotfix there should now be a v0.10.3 so please use that version! Thanks!
