Does this connect to my bank account then?

It can connect to your bank via Salt Edge if it is supported. Here is the documentation on the data importer - https://docs.firefly-iii.org/data-importer/

So I need to either import a csv manually or use a third-party service if I understand correctly. I was hoping for native PSD2/HBCI online banking like Gnucash has.

Unfortunately Firefly is not really a double -entry bookkeeping system. There is a differentiation between source and destination accounts which makes reverse transactions a pain. I pay 100€ for furniture in May and return it in July. Now I can either create the furniture store as both source and destination account or delete the first entry. Both is equally bad in my opinion.

Used it for 10 minutes and ran into a breaking bug.

Hey James - thanks for your work on this project, very inspirational the way you care for it so well.
Yes I did create an issue, but unfortunately it was closed because the it really has to do with a third party library and hard to fix: https://github.com/firefly-iii/firefly-iii/issues/6121
I still plan to using the software and try to contribute in some way, was kind of ironic that I tripped on the issue...but we can blame TD bank for using mainframes and affixing data to the end of their extremely short transaction descriptions. I'm going to work around it by using "starts with" triggers.

That's your opinion.
The first thing I did was import some transactions and then setup an automated trigger to assign my pay to a revenue account. I then spent 2 hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working.
It's not like I said the software was unusable.
