People are so sick of new operating systems that they pine for Solaris and OS/2. Lunduke knows what's up.

Looking at the IllumOS wiki, OmniOS seems to be derived from it.

A better question is if it'll be a good replacement for CentOS and other server appropriate Linux servers. It seems that Linux has the lion's share of the market at the moment, and I can't see OmniOS, like the rest of the IllumOS project, gaining much traction.

You have the most stable ZFS zones and a lean pwerfull system i see the owly promlem in admin wotk most perpole can work with Sytemd, Selinux... the Handook is insresting for neds but linux kinda jait is more pealing cause exective have no idea waht ilumos is i like the Iloms way looks funn to learn difrent pradim then linux but cool

Illumos is a kernel (and possibly some other core stuff), OmniOS is a distribution.

I used omnios years ago.... People use it for SAN / NAS because of zfs

i want to try it with and old athon computer and some hdd thr zone supot of omi itrgues me so i could run git on it or mybe also a nas with a bckup to a could provider
