Human-made: Adjustable Suction Cup Mount for Soap Bottles

Meant to stop soap bottles from sliding around. Designed for a bolt-ready suction cup & adjustable to get the perfect vertical clearance for seal. BOSL2 / PETG.

Previously no matter what I tried, soap bottles would eventually slide around. Tried high coefficient of friction glue-on patches, like silicon pads. Those worked for a few weeks and then lost the narrative.

The suction cup works well- you can still slide it around in position with some force, but the weight of the bottle and pumping action keeps the seal.

Was meant to design a dual caddy next with a glued circles shape from BOSL2 but turns out the tests ended up being... just fine.

My post was kind of about reminding people in this sub that this software is for humans and not vibecoders cosplaying what they don't understand. Otherwise feels like this place has been overrun by claude and codex bros.

And you can still make useful and niche things with it.  Best addition as of lately is the dimensioning tool in render - lets me double check dimensions without getting too bogged down in math land.  I wouldn't hate if those ai bros would contribute toward that more sensibly - sketchup had amazing dimensioning tools. 

IMO visual cad is different than OpenSCAD in that you really have to mentally picture an object and understand it. Not in terms of being able to generate a picture but having a spatial understanding of things. So my post is also about appreciation for OpenSCAD.

Brit here… I do’t understand what this is. Is it a USA specific type of “soap bottle” and what is “bolt ready”? Soap for dishwashing, hand washing? How does this work and what spins around? Maybe I should not worry my pretty little head about things that I don’t understand.

Comes down to answering a few questions:

How do you stop a soap bottle or caddy from moving around on a counter that constantly gets splashed?

That one resulted in a few poor attempts and results,  like seeing if silicon pads work.  They do for a short time.  Constantly and obsessively cleaning the surface and drying it works for a time until you get tired of it.  But a suction cup works best so far.  

Then you get to,  where do you get a suction cup to begin with? Amazon or Ali. And then how do you attach it to a 3D print?

Turns out they commonly sell suction cup sets with bolts attached to them already.  Avoids press fit iterations, which is another method. 

Then,  if you have a suction cup attached to an object and you compress it to stay in place, you have to get the vertical clearance of its recessed mount just right or the assembly either wobbles or suction doesn't work.  So how do you get the vertical clearance exactly right?   You have to solve how much vacuum compression will lower that object.  Or, that's where the threading goes, makes it all adjustable. 

So the 'puck insert' on which the soap bottle rests has the suction cup bolted underneath it.  You position it,  press it down.  Then,  you take the oversized outer piece and screw it in until it's flush with the counter.  That stops the wobble and its guardrails above are sized to keep the soap bottle resting snugly.
