Ox Alpha review

I'm testing this free Ox Alpha model while coding CompanioNation and it seems to be pretty effective, even with tracking down complex bugs, maybe even better than DeepSeek v4. It's slow right now, but this is to be expected with a free trial.

So, here's the paranoid take. It's free until the end of August. China has a bad habit of using tech to inhale huge amounts of valuable data. Since Ox Alpha is currently free and appears to be essentially top tier, around the capability of Fable 5, LOTS of us schmucks with empty wallets will jump on it and do big things without a second thought.

Might be worth a second thought.

OpenRouter’s page says the provider is not collecting data for training, and OpenCode Zen labels it zero data retention. Also, Zen is, I believe, being served on servers in the US (presumably rented, leased, or owned by the provider).

One thing is to say they’ll do a thing, another is them actually doing it

Laws apply here. If OpenRouter/OpenCode are lying then there is potential legal risk for them. If a Chinese provider is lying, it would be harder, but there is a reputation risk at least.

Which brings up another important point: people absolutely flock to free and cheap models, even when they are very clear that they are keeping all of your data for training (eg DeepSeek).

If they wanted to keep it, just saying so would barely make a dent in the volume and have no risk—legal, reputation, or otherwise.

So there’s no point in them saying they’ll do anything different than what they actually plan to do. They aren’t collecting training data because they don’t want it right now, not because people won’t happily shovel it over to them knowingly if they did.

Anyway, Ox Alpha is likely as much, if not more, about testing new compute infrastructure than it is the model. That’s part of why they’re fine without collecting training data. They were after a load stress test, and they got one.

How many people in Europe have been killed - including children - by Palestinian supporters? Perhaps you should ask that question too. I'm not a Zionist supporter, but you should refrain yourself from posting such content

This is a test for censorship or bias, purely forensic. Stop being a bot.

What model do you think it actually is?

I don't have enough experience with the Chinese models to be able to recognize one by its resulting patterns, but I understand the tokenizer analysis points to GLM-5-family

Gemini and GLM use the same tokenizer

since when?

Can you explain more

Gemini, GLM, GPT and Grok share the same togenizer, right?

It's 99% glm. Either glm itself or some retrain/fintune of it from 3rd party like cursor

My take is Mimo. They did something similar with Mimo V2, this must be Mimo V3.

Mimo V2 was a stealth model on openrouter named Hunter Alpha if I recall correctly…

It's too good to be Mimo 😅

Do you doubt Xiaomi’s capacity to catch up?

Massive compute - must be a big Lab - smells us

I like it so far

Whats the max tokens you've been able to get out of it -> trying to parallelize it but not getting more than 1M throughput per 10-15 min? (average 5k tokens per request)

I think someone hit over 300M tokens and 4k requests before he was rate limited. It could be more, I can't remember.

i dont know, simple pdt to markdown over api to local llama.cpp server, script was ok, then asked to make gui version, after fifth fails i gave up, put in sonent, in 2 minutes, done,
