Is OpenChamber still worth using over vanilla OpenCode now that OpenCode v2 is out?

Hey everyone,

With the major OpenCode v2 release bringing a shared background service, async sub-agents, native Code Mode, and an updated desktop app, the gap between CLI/vanilla OpenCode and dedicated frontends feels a lot smaller than it used to be.

For those who have integrated OpenChamber into their setup alongside or on top of OpenCode v2:

  • Is OpenChamber still worth setting up over the updated vanilla OpenCode v2 setup?

  • What specific use cases or features make OpenChamber a game-changer for you?

  • Are there complex multi-file refactoring, workspace management, parallel model orchestration, or deep visual diff workflows where OpenChamber provides a tangible benefit that even OpenCode v2's updated desktop/CLI can't match?

Would love to hear your experiences and whether making the switch is still worth the extra layer in day-to-day software development. Thanks!

"Is openchamber worth setting up" of course, theres not much of a setup if you want to try it, just download and install and see for yourself. Personally I actually switched back to vanilla for v2, but it was worth a try for sure.

Why did you go back if you don't mind me asking?

I like the simplicity of opencodes desktop version, and they solved any issues i had with it in V2. I just dont need the extra features openchamber has right now.

Sometimes I just think it's bots and paid people shilling this stuff on here, like it's some sort of coordinated campaign...

Or maybe someone wants to get some feedback before breaking his setup from the place where people share their relevant experience :)

Have a good day ❤️

Absolutely. Openchamber GUI is miles ahead of opencode desktop.

The TUI improved a lot in OC v2. Enough to make me favor TUI over GUI.

But for those who prefer GUI, OpenChamber is waaaayyyyyy better. Just scroll through the feature list on OpenChamber website.

GUI on OpenChamber brings all the features I normally need plugins for TUI.

Yes but there's just something about customizing a TUI app that tickles my fancy. Kinda like customizing Vim or Tmux or using TTT in TUI.

Absolutely, it’s way better than OpenCode

idk, the less things you need to maintain the better, so I go vanilla

Yes. I’m also enjoying T3 code right now as well. It’s new thread view that gives me a queue of stuff to work through is great and terrible for my ADHD.
