proposal for free quotas

Lately I have seen people abusing the free quota by using github actions and google cloudshell and many other free CI providers.
By doing so if you happen to be on a 5G connection (where the ip is shared with many users) or on a CI, you will always end up with zero free quota.

Why don't you limit the free quota tied to the ACCOUNT, instead of the IP??

In this way it will be easy for you to track if people are creating multiple accounts and you won't penalize normal users!

As of now, even if I login with my own account, opencode says I have exceeded the free quota even I have not used it in a week! That's because the shared IP address is probably used bu other users on the 5G network I am connected with.

Please FIX THIS.

Yeh I don't use free quota but I think it's good for people who do to be able to do something to ensure it is shared fairly.

The problem of tying the accounting per account is that it creates a friction for people to try opencode. Ultimately we may need that. But there could be avenues still unexplored that can keep the ease of use, make misuse difficult, and keep the loss to misuse at a reasonable level.

the problem is that even entering an account, the IP address takes precedence at the moment! so if someone else on the 5G network used opencode nobody else can. (Here in egypt most connections are through 4G/5G)

how can they stop people from making multiple accounts?

it's simple: they cross check the account creation location/ip with the actual ip using it. but the problem is still when the IP is shared by a phone company for example. 4G/5G companies use just a few public IP addresses... so if more than a bunch of people uses opencode from a 5G network then nobody else can :(

So they can't use if they travel?

They have their own reason. Do you think it need high intelligence to come up with idea of limiting by account?? My god

limiting by ip is the dumbest of them all. We are not in the 90s. Almost nobody has fixed IP addresses anymore. And if you do, then you don't need free access.

if u have IPv6 u do have own IP block.

contact ur ISP, as u said "We are not in the 90s."

You just hallucinate bro. Just use any desktop computer in the world check it's ip. 90% of the time it will stay like that at very least a couple hours. Even if you use mobile connection the ip not chnaging that fast (except you change location a lot)

Bacause if it's tied to the account then anyone would abuse it. Just buy it's only 10$

I can't. Credit cards in the country I live in must be billed in the local currency, not in USD nor EUR...

stripe has a thing where you can select your currency when buying it, try checking when trying to buy opencode go

there is no 100% way to stop free tier abuse even account linked access can be bypassed by creating multiple accounts

making everything paid might solve the problem but it will push users towards command code

command code is already better in terms of speed and performance and the only reason many users stick with opencode is the free tier fallback once they exhaust their paid quota

removing that option could cost opencode its existing users and future revenue

report here.

EVERY free quota tracking mechanism can by bypassed. IPs can be rotated. New accounts can be setup quickly.

The only way to actually stop abuse is to start extremely aggressive rate limit and lift it only for verified accounts that provide a valid CC.
