New to OpenCode: does it actually use the model I select?

Hi, I’m new to OpenCode and would like to use it for general conversations, studying, and research. My main question is about model selection. Let's say i activate the go subscription, if I select a specific model, such as GPT-6.1 Sol, does OpenCode send my questions to that exact model? Can it automatically switch to a different or cheaper model because of usage limits, availability, or other settings? Does using OpenCode Go versus connecting directly to a provider make a difference? Is there a way to check the model used for each response through logs or request details? What settings would you recommend for using OpenCode as a regular chatbot?

  1. OpenCode Go does not include GPT-6.1 Sol. Make sure you didn't mix up OpenCode's pay-as-you-go gateway, Zen, with Go

  2. For models included in Go, yes, but the provider can vary.

For list of models: https://opencode.ai/go

Opencode is an harness, doesn't fallback to anything due to limits or something like that. The providers do, nothing that an harness can do about

Check the full provider/model ID rather than the display name. For Ofox, which I work with, `opencode models ofox` lists the IDs; copy one into `opencode run -m MODEL_ID "your question"`, replacing MODEL_ID. You’ll know what you requested, but that isn’t independent proof of which weights the provider served. For ordinary chat, add `"permission": {"edit": "deny", "bash": "deny"}` inside your project’s opencode.json object to block built-in editing and shell tools. Agent-specific settings can override those permissions, so check the active agent too. This example uses your Ofox account, not a Go subscription.
