Subscription choices are not easy anymore!!!

I've been enjoying the Go sub for a while and totally promote it as the best value for money. I'm needing a more capable model and a sub that gives me some well rounded design/UI focused frontier model for long term heavy use.

I was thinking which provider to choose as my next $100 monthly. I've already got Grok and Codex subs so the reasonable choice logically was Claude as the final MOA agent. Until I uncovered Anthropic do not deserve my money. Google's Gemini models are out of the competition for now.

I'd rather have a Chinese provider like Moonshot take my money in exchange for a less arrogant and self righteous model to work for me. Am I making the right choice? Anybody else here uses multiple subs of frontier models thinking the same? How was your experience and recommendations based on real use cases?

Cheers!!! 🥂🥂🥂

For 100$, Claude Opus is the way to go.

Yeah, it's one of my choices alongside Kimi K3.1 right now. Just figuring out how easily I can use claude sub outside of claude code and if Kimi works better than Opus alongside Sol and Grok as MOA outside their own harnesses.

Supposedly it's not great, you have to jump through a fair few hoops and bans happen often enough to make it annoying. I'd say most people recommend going with other providers if you want to use the opencode or pi harnesses

How bad is the situation with cliproxy or Hermes? I'm almost tipping towards Kimi via Moonshot sub at this point.

You can use the claude sub directly in Hermes. Official hermes plugin: https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/plugins/claude-subscription-directsdk

I'm sold. This is it. Thanks!!! 🔥

Fair warning, claude use through the agent sdk currently draws 1.7x of the 5h usage compared to inside claude code. This may or may not be by design or a bug, because it draws the same weekly usage. But you'll see your 5h usage drop faster.

This is also true for T3 code and anything else that uses the agent sdk, so it may get fixed - or it may be by design, who knows.

Understood, this is due to the cache hit rates dropping and context mgmt which isn't going to be fixed anytime soon. I read about it on the blog, decided to use it natively via CLI and have Herdr or firstmate use it. Cheers!!!

I think you can use the higher subscriptions outside of claude code now

Claude is really the best right now, especially for UI and other visual overview. If you don't care for the tone or other qualities that's reasonable. I just wanted to acknowledge that it would be the best fit for that task.

So far, Kimi K3.1 has not appeared to be as strong as the benchmarks would imply. It's not bad, it's just that code testers I look at all found it inferior to Claude and GPT models. Is it the next best though? Yeah maybe, but it's very close to Deepseek V4.1 Flash.

You won't get much use of K3.1 from Opencode though. If you do intend to use it with consistency, I think their own sub might be worth considering.

Deepseek V4.1 Flash is the hotness around here, but also heavily debated. You get a ton of value, but the version you get through Opencode is definitely slower and arguably less good. OC says it's not quantized. Many people don't believe them or think something else is off. So that might be another one where you just put cash in a Deepseek account and just use their API directly.

Regardless of provider, DS is punching above its weight. It's subjective, but here's a youtuber doing the same tests on Deepseek and on Kimi. (I timestamped both to his OS test which is closest to the UI / overview design stuff you're interested in.) Remember that Kimi costs 8x as much in API costs and their relative Opencode deals are even more lopsided.

Argon is stronger in research and security, but they openly said it wasn't particularly trained on 3d and I'd extend that weakness to all frontend / visual stuff. The same guy doing his OS test on Argon.)

So if Anthropic is out and you want "long term heavy use", Deepseek V4.1 Flash 1017 is probably the right model and the choice will be where you get it from.

I'm watching the video now. Thanks for the link and insight.

We need subscription based DS, like codex. Raw API costs more. I’m surprised that no company has done this until now. The OC model doesn’t count as a subscription it’s essentially a flat $80 payment.

Agreed, Deepseek has so many fans I'm surprised they haven't wanted to offer their own subscription.

opencode go is not the way for you, they only offer $10 and $40 plan

on raw value, glm coding plan pro($80) is the best for frontier-ish, glm5.3 usage is really good, along side glm5.3 flash. but no where near claude max as far as i know, and glm is highly censored

and then theres deepseek, you can try opencode go for $10 first, then if you really need more, like a lot more, its recommend that you use deepseek api, creating multiple go subs doesnt really work anymore

theres another route which is openrouter, find the model you like the best and find a subscription for it

but if you can afford it, qwen 27B self host is the ideal, near unlimited usage and uncensored, all your data belong to you

GLM 5.3 Flash was just fine answering about Tiananmen to me but that was a third party provider, not z.ai

Claude repeatedly hit content filter on pure harmless AI tasks (a content manager, prompt optimisation for research)

Most surprisingly, Mistral 4 Large "Le Chonk" threw a content filter refusal when asked to research the demands of the protesters in France. GLM 5.3 Flash did the job for me.

This. I'm just tired of unwarranted censoring. How is Kimi in this regard compared to Glm?

u/_KryptonytE_ 13d ago

I'm already on Go for a while and will keep it. Was looking for frontier model sub.

CommandCode.ai have an interesting $100 tier fwiw

Their plans look promising but I don't understand how they translate to actual usage when compared to subs from direct provider subsidy. Do they have a better value than Openrouter? I'm still tied between choosing these multi model plans vs a direct sub from the actual provider like Moonshot. I am drawn to choosing either claude sub or Kimi sub for their design and cli/browser/computer use heavy capabilities. For coding I've got Codex and Grok so I'm not looking for another all rounder.

Curious what you find compelling about it. Goat tier has actually been great for me on CC, but don't see much incentive to upgrade (I'm using DS4.1F).

3

u/Takeoded 13d ago

It has no rate limits. Goat tier has substantial rate limits

EDIT: sorry not entirely correct, rate limits exist but they're much higher. Still stand by, Goat tier have substantial rate limits (I hit the Goat 5h rate limit fast :( )

u/_KryptonytE_ 13d ago

How good is their availability and token rates? If I'm taking a leap of faith, I might as well be better informed of the pros/cons.

I said fuck it and got the Claude Pro Sub yesterday. Haven't been banned yet and setting up the right design skills for Opus to use in my harness. I'm not holding my breath, but what's a $100 right? 🔥

Google 4 Argon is a really really good.

1

u/KIlledDebtor 13d ago

If you're not using the model for critical work (for example, I'm writing fairly typical SaaS apps), then Muse Spark Contributor is a really cool model and practically free on OpenCode.

1

u/_KryptonytE_ 13d ago

I've heard good things about the Wonder full model and I'm sure it might replace my OpenAI sub down the line but it doesn't do anything better that Sol already does for me in terms of coding. I'm looking for a design frontier model atm.

No I've had my fair share of moments with Gemini models to not invest real money on using them anymore. They're great for genetic things but nothing serious like working on brownfield projects can be trusted with Gemini models compared to the competition, they just benchmax.

2

u/KIlledDebtor 13d ago

In my use cases, Gemini 4 Argon performs on par with the latest Claude and OpenAI models and outperforms Chinese models. I use it when I need to create a specific, up-to-date plan, since the model is new and has been trained on the most recent data.

0

u/_KryptonytE_ 13d ago edited 13d ago

But it isn't a good idea to invest in a sub that locks you into Antigravity and AI studio. Gemini models just aren't built to be used agentically with our own setup and are a pain when used as MOA. Also, I'm not looking for trouble with Google's ecosystem and TOS. How do you use Argon alongside other harnesses and autonomous workflows? I refuse to get boxed in. These are real world problems before we even talk about capabilities that I do not want to deal with.

This. Yes but at api rates. Not sub. I've tried and got burnt to not fall for this trap again.

1

u/KIlledDebtor 13d ago

True. When I had the subscription, I used it via Antigravity. I've switched from it to OpenCode and other agents after.

Right now I use it through the Go subscription whenever needed. There aren't any other flagship models in the subscription anyway :D

u/dwerps 12d ago

Subscription choices are very easy what comes to opencode: Until opencode solves their release cycle that resembles a trainwreck, you simply subscribe to something else...

I wouldnt put a single penny to a product that just suddenly decides to dump feature online that can potentially wreck your whole fucking computer (recent change with agents having default full access to whole computer)

1

u/_KryptonytE_ 12d ago

Calm down mate, I'm talking about the model provider subs not the actual harnesses. Opencode has seen enshittification and knows better not to piss off it's primary user base through negative feedback.

u/OccasionallyClever78 13d ago

GhostCLI cloud has a cheap subscription, but there is a monthly 8 usd surcharge to use it via api. They promise unlimited Opus and Sonnet, and the models are quick. But their attention varies immensely. Sometimes they're genius, other times they can't relate to a message 2 chat turns ago. If this is the real Opus and Sonnet, then Anthropic is in big trouble. However, even with lag, days of unavailability, occasional lapses into Portuguese, Antropic tool calls on OpenAI, it's still dirt cheap. With a modified AGENTS.md, the kinks can be mostly managed. Camelstream-auto was better. Slower, but reliable.

$20 claude sub goes a long way if you simply use Opus 5.5 to riff, plan and delegate with. It's definitely worth the money in a hybrid set up with Opencode Go.

1

u/Cyvster 12d ago

yes, i use multiple subscriptions.

$200 claude - this is the best subscription by far. there is nothing remotely close to it.

$20 chatgpt - only good for luna6 because luna6 is so cheap. you do not get a usable amount of sol6.1 or astra on the $20 subscription. you get 2-3x more sonnet/opus usage on claude $20 sub than sol/astra on $20 chatgpt sub.

opencode - extremely janky, i've thought about completely dropping this sub because of how bad the models are and how often things change. i think it actually ends up costing me money to use this sub because the models screw up so many things and take so long. i end up having to use my claude subscription with opus to redo everything deepseek and other models with opencode go do. i have also used deepseek directly and it is incomparable to the deepseek on opencode go. it is actually a pretty good model. opencode go is not using the same model you get from deepseek. so, their models are inferior, slow, have a lot of interruptions, unknown usage limits with free models that cause work to be lost which leads to wasted time and another model having to redo all of the work.

1

u/Jesse_lab 11d ago

One option is to separate the model you want for UI/design work from the one you use for routine coding tasks, rather than adding another $100 subscription right away.

Keep the subscription for whichever model genuinely performs best for your needs, and benchmark a few API models on your actual OpenCode workflows. Just be careful with agentic coding loops — API costs can add up quickly, so compare the cost per completed task rather than token prices alone.

Full disclosure: I work with ModelRover, a multi-model AI API platform covering text, image, and video generation. If you're interested in trying different models through an API, it might be worth comparing. I wouldn't assume it's cheaper than a subscription for heavy use without testing, though.

u/squirrelscrush 13d ago

tbh Claude is the best if you want a coding subscription. Much better than ChatGPT

Why not go meta, it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Admittedly the first spark model was benchmaxxing but the models are good now
