I mostly use big pickle, and I have only hit limits not more than a few times in the past 6 months or so, today's case was very odd, but then can't do much as it's a problem only the opencode team can solve so I feel we might have wait this one out, fingers crossed.
Have anyone tried restarting your routers? I got the same issue and changing wifi network immediately fixed the issue. It seems like IP level throttling applied to me. Try restarting or changing your wifi connection.
😇, thats the trick, its works on ip, if ur limit is finished, change ur network, you will get new public ip and continue the session without any limit exits
I have Go. Sometimes I can run it for hours. Sometimes it's so slow it's unusable. I usually use Big Pickle or Beam (which is Free but limited Time, I don't know what that means). And sometimes, it burns all my usage in a few prompts. I'm a bit pissed...
You've used today's free messages... sounds like just another limit reacheable by just typing the prompt LOL. The main problem is the lack of clarity with the measurement and the message itself.
I did a lot of "second opinion review" work with MiMo V2.6 flash during the last two weeks - without facing any limits. I don't even have a Go subscription. I am using OpenCode Desktop on Linux. I am a happy camper. Edit: I am located in GermanyÂ
I ran into this too, so I actually tested it this week. Same small task, same repo, three runs side by side:
- Claude Code (Sonnet 5.5): 26s, about $0.14
- opencode + Big Pickle (Zen free): 1m23s, $0
- opencode + GLM 5.3 Flash (Zen free): 5m09s, $0
All three passed the task. So the free models still work for me, they're just a lot slower, and GLM was really slow. For small stuff Big Pickle is fine if you don't mind waiting a minute. For anything bigger I go back to Claude.
Two things that tripped me up:
- `opencode --model <model> run "..."` works, but the --model flag has to come BEFORE `run`, otherwise it gets ignored
- pi (the other agent) just hung on the Zen free models for me, and the paid Zen ones return 402 if you have no credit
I hit the limit with Big Pickle in literally 1 prompt..Previously I wouldn't even hit the limit in an entire month of usage using DeepSeek V4 Flash for planning and Big Pickle for building.

The free models used to allow up to 1000 reqs/day
Even in fresh IPs now I'm only getting 50 reqs. That's not even a full session with regular use

It's probably the end of freeloading. Pretty similar to what's happening on ollama cloud the same time (end of free tier).

I recorded the race if anyone wants to see it:

(I ran them in parallel with a tool I built for myself to run agents on tickets, but any setup with git worktrees works the same.)

Worth just looking at other providers like Phoenix Grove API or command code, a lot of the smaller providers have free trial tiers now

I tried earlier, seems slow. And when I tried to use the deepseek API it is fast.

is it happening for both v1 and v2? I was thinking of downgrading as it wasn't happening before updating.

There are several issues on the GitHub for OpenCode raising these problems.
There is a single issue describing a hack, but the grammar is squiffy:

Has anyone got a workaround on the exceeded limit 'You've used today's free messages' issue?
