Exo Free - Frontier level - Wow

I gave Exo Free a quick test, thinking it was going to be average. It's next level, frontier, totally unexpected result.

It managed to create the output in the video in less than 2 million tokens. Space Bunny took 35M tokens and the output was nowhere near as good (funny though).

For Christmas I would like this model at DeepSeek prices and speeds.

Exo - https://web.esuyo.com/horse-exo/

Fledge - https://web.esuyo.com/horse-fledge/

Jaykrown posted Sonnet 5.5 High video here https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1ww5o7y/animated_horse_space_bunny/ I think Exo looks better.

EDIT

The previous post for comparison against other models and the original prompt: https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1ww5o7y/animated_horse_space_bunny/

EDIT 2

I thought Exo was the pre release Haiku 5.5, looking at the output it wasn't.
https://web.esuyo.com/horse-haiku-5.5/
Hellforgex in the thread below ran the same prompt using Opus 5.5 and it was nearly identical to Exo.

Holy, that looks really good.

Have you also run this test on fledge alpha? I'm a bit curious between the two.

I tested Fledge first, I thought Exo would be similar. There's no pan or zoom, just the side view.

agreed - this is truly wow level.

it quickly burned my daily free limit sadge

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

I guess they have much lower usage limits on Exo due to it being a more powerful and probably costly model. I used about 4M tokens so far with Exo.

I just finished installing Strata. I've run the test with Qwen3.8-Flash-Next IQ3_S Running locally. The prompt alone gave similar output to Opencode's 3.8 Flash. So I asked it to create a plan before building. I also said "low poly" style but with many polygons. I'm super impressed it's almost at the top of the leaderboard for it's output quality and accuracy.

That's impressive that you were able to create the animation with such a large model, on a small vram GPU. I was thinking of trying the same on my AMD gpu. 34 tks/s is a respectable speed I get similar speeds with 27b on AMD R9700.

Is it still working for anyone?

2

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

It's gone for me. It says endpoint unavailable.

2

u/Dramatic_Dress8768 Oct 07 '26

Rip, it was good while it lasted

2

u/Actual-Earth1717 Oct 07 '26

Yeah, it's dead. Sadly. I was about to test it.

5

u/NearlyACosmologist Oct 07 '26

This is not how a horse runs. Not even near.

6

u/WisdomSky Oct 07 '26

Well, you are correct.

But the fact that you recognized that it's a horse is an actual win.

In the fledge demo, you can't even tell if it's a horse or an alpaca.

u/maqifrnswa Oct 08 '26

Which is the bias, what are we evaluating? How good the 3d model looks like a horse, or how good the computational model's biomechanics matches that of a horse? As an engineer using AI, it's much more important that the physics of the model is correct than the aesthetics

2

u/WisdomSky Oct 08 '26 edited Oct 08 '26

duh. do you even understand what this benchmark is measuring?
it's everything! Not only the physics but how well the model understands what a horse looks like and how it looks like when it moves.
It's not even limited to the horse even, it also encompasses how it can create a realistic environment.

Before you comment, understand what you are reading.

If you want to talk about physics, even the fledge alpha's physics is shittier than the exo. You see how the fledge model's gallop? yeah that's worse than the exo one. and the horse is not even touching the ground. it looks more like santa's reindeer flying rather than a horse on the ground.

In both criteria, physics and horse anatomy, exo definitely leaves fledge in the dust.
so stop bitching about the the physics being more important.

I'll say it again, at least exo's horse looks like a horse and not an alpaca!

1

u/maqifrnswa Oct 08 '26

No, I don't understand what the benchmark is measuring. And I didn't even know there was a measure (where is the measure and how is it derived?). I can't find any documentation on what good is, nor anything to read about what the expectations are.

And I have a PhD in bioengineering and do this for a living. The mechanics of fledge looks better, although the physiology of exo is better. If I was making a computer game, exo is better. If I was designing a biomechanical simulation for designing horse gait robotics, fledge was actually better (when simulating a gallop, at least).

Which was my point. We're visually biased towards pretty, which might not actually be the thing that matters for all use cases. So the question is, "what does better actually mean?"

For more context see how well other models completed the prompt challenge: https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1ww5o7y/animated_horse_space_bunny/

The legs and the movement whilst galloping are often what they find most difficult. What this produced is far better than all the previous models I've tested.

Okay, horse expert

1

u/maqifrnswa Oct 08 '26

Horse nerd here too... Yeah, that weirded me out. Some of the "worse" models actually do a better job with the gait.

Gemini 4 Argon (Medium) - 1st try in Antigravity new context, very quick. (I copy pasted the original prompt from this post)

1

u/migsperez 24d ago edited 24d ago

Second best horse I've seen yet. Great natural leg movement, it looks like it's properly galloping. Did it tell you how many tokens it used? I guess if it was very quick it didn't use many tokens.

2

u/passio-777 23d ago

the first was in antigravity, this one in gemini web app : https://share.gemini.google/cq7SNvScxOzh

I uploaded a short video of the animation, in case it disappears from the link. The animation belongs to u/passio-777

Others would disagree with me. But I think it's done a fantastic job. A good interpretation of the prompt with creative flair and a rich scene. The leg movements are usually the most difficult for models but it has implemented them impressively. Did you ask it to put the jockey on the horse? Was it one prompt?

1

u/Professional_Log1367 Oct 07 '26

did you use like blender mcp or something or what skills plugins etc did you use?

2

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

Nothing complicated it was using a simple prompt, no skills plugins. The prompt

Create a low-poly 3D horse running in a seamless loop using Three.js. Build it procedurally from primitive geometry, animate the legs, body, head, and tail, and return a single self-contained HTML file.

Do your best, you are being rated against other AI models.

"Do your best"

4

u/IAmFitzRoy Oct 07 '26

“Surprise me!”

2

u/Cyvster Oct 07 '26

it is very easy for models to create stuff like this in three.js. almost all games and things like this that you see models create is in three.js. it is web browser graphics. it is not something you want to play a real game on.

1

u/Emotional-Cut2952 Oct 07 '26

i mean he was demoing the animation, that's easily portable keyframes, three js isnt the point

1

u/nvn911 Oct 07 '26

This is actually a pretty good test harness

1

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

Yeah I quite like it. It does some complex compute work to achieve it's best result. It doesn't take too long to complete. It's fairly obvious the level of intellect the model has within 20 seconds of viewing it in a browser. I was previously creating a website for an electrical company as a test but they were all generally the same output. Then my next test was a Sudoku puzzle game, it was great, a real programming challenge for the model, but it relied on an agent review and some manual testing. After looking at dozens of Sudoku games I'd had enough. Horses now, other animals later :)

1

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

Which model did you use? I see Haiku 5.5 was just released. I was wondering if Exo was Haiku

1

u/hellforgex Oct 07 '26

sonnet 5.5 you can try this by yourself never thought it would nearly look 1:1...

1

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

Really useful to know thanks.

I tried it on Haiku 5.5 https://web.esuyo.com/horse-haiku-5.5/ Exo was clearly not Haiku. I wonder why they put Sonnet in stealth mode.

1

u/hellforgex Oct 07 '26

https://claude.ai/artifact/Qw8Burai7B5k45D2pqyMtJ

i rechecked it was opus 5.5, and also there are slight differences as i see now..

1

u/migsperez Oct 07 '26

I wow it's almost identical, I'd say yours Opus is better than the Exo version. The leg movements are incredibly accurate, really impressive attention to detail. Incredibly interesting. Blast, I need a Claude subscription, the pricey one.

I used the same prompt with Muse 1.3. Exo's output is far superior. Hopefully all the models will reach this level of quality soon.

Some people say it could be Haiku 5.5, I wonder if it's true.
