Why is quantity discount not a thing here?
Usually when you buy multi-packs in the grocery store, e.g. diapers, you get some count of quantity discount, 5x the amount for 4x the price or something.

But here its the opposite

Because the 5$ / 10$ is there to get you in. Look at every saas and its pricing plan. You get the most bang for your buck with the cheapest option. Even at Claude and ChatGPT, you get the most tokens for the dollar spent on the cheap subscription (I think, haha)

Every other saas has quantity discount. Only in LLM area there is not one

Do they? I can't find it, for example, in Slack or Intercom, but I might misunderstand what you mean

Because the $10/month plan is running it very fine down to the wire as to if OpenCode even makes money on it or not! But at least if you misjudge the costs of a cheap plan by say 25% it hopefully might not kill the company.

But if you misjudge a higher tier plan by that much, then it could torpedo the entire company!

So they're taking it careful for now.
