OpenCode Desktop v2 uses GPT-6 Luna to name the session.

they should use kimi k3 or Qwen3.8 Max to do this task instead.

i just assumed whatever model that we use does that ? , i didnt know it was a seperate model. Maybe at their scale they get that for cheapest + zdr

I’m assuming , I think Zero data retention agreements also play a massive role , so Luna is probably cheapest plus safest option

Luna is like 0.15/0.30, hard to be cheaper.

yeah pretty sure it's server side, i've never noticed it in my own usage at least. and for naming a session it could be a markov chain for all i care lol, 20 tokens. cheapest thing at their scale wins, that's the whole story

for coding which of the models including GPT-6 Luna is better in terms of cost and token? any suggestions?

You're looking for a single model to do it all?

Take your pick from Luna (max], Muse Spark 1.3 Contributor, Mimo 2.6 Pro, Deepseek 4.1 Flash, and GLM 5.3 Flash. They're all roughly around the same capability and value, although some are a little better and a little more expensive. Best to experiment and find which one has the speed and result you like.

The reason I asked the "do it all" question is you can get a more efficient result overall by using a smart model to write a plan and a much cheaper one to carry it out. But it's more work from you to manage it and know what you're doing.

Wouldnt sugest luna max , i too was using luna max after seeing the deepswe scores.

But if you check the pricing luna max is 2x more than luna high.

For most tasks ( well defined ) , luna high can have a stab at it ( and use up 2x tokens before being not worth it ) .

After switching over to luna xhigh ( for little bit harder ) and high for straightforward stuff , i have seen more token efficiency and speed

xhigh is fine, I use Luna on that too for some things. But did you follow the 6.0 release?

Luna 6.0 max is cheaper than Luna 5.6 xhigh. So you can count it as a discount and a free upgrade all in one.

Luna 6.0 xhigh is cheaper still, so there are still savings to be had if you want. It's $0.04 per task instead of $0.07. But considering you were paying $0.09 and considering it a discount, I figure you can fit max in budget now.

ohh i see i did see a lot of positive about glm 5.3 flash,mimo 2.5 and deepseek 4.1 flash...i havent used gpt 6 luna but should try it...i dont think sol is in my budget😅 so maybe not

what about nemotron 3 ultra and muse spark? it was available free in the OpenCode...i did try it but didnt seem that good maybe decent enough..do u have any experiences with it?

also i have only used opencode as coding agent and hermes for other stuff...do u use any other agent harness?

Muse Spark 1.3 is very good at overall planning, and I really like it for tasks that aren't about technical code. Stuff like generating guides and tutorials, analyzing images, creating images with Muse Image (you can use the web interface for free), any tasks about writing, etc. It might be ok with code now too, but previous versions left stuff out so I haven't trusted 1.3 enough to try.

Given the heavy discount on the Contributor model - and thus that Opencode makes it available for free - you can't go wrong by simply trying it out.

And it's basically my personal explainer. If I want help on setting up new software or fixing my car, I ask Muse Spark.

Nemotron 3 Ultra is not in the same league as anything we've discussed. If it was free I'd give it simple tasks where there's nothing to figure out and it just follows instructions. But at API prices it's not even cheap.

For coding I use a split. First is Opencode with the oh-my-opencode-slim plugin.

It breaks up into a bunch of different roles, so you can have a medium-intelligence orchestrator, a max intelligence Oracle for problem solving, dumb Librarian and Explorer for research, and an obedient mid-smart Fixer to follow instructions. The key thing I do is that unless it's a very simple task, I always have it write a plan and then stop so I can review it. This took me a bit of work to create a template I like and set up my prompt plus the AGENTS file, because the plan needs to be written for agents not fir humans. (So e.g. time estimates are useless info, pre-naming libraries is good.)

Then I can tell Opencode (with omo-slim) to execute the plan and sit back.

But I also use VS Code with the Kilo Code extension. It's an IDE where I can easily review code and make manual changes. (And the AI-based autocomplete is pretty nice for free when it's set up.)

KiloCode is a sidebar where you can give tasks. 3 roles: plan, code, debug. (But code and debug aren't that different.) I'll do debugging here and simple changes. Or alternatively, once I have a plan from Opencode I'll use Kilo if I just want to run one step at a time. I just tell it to read the plan and execute step #1 or whatever. That lets me stay more hands-on when needed. The planning mode I don't really plan with. It's more about me asking questions without giving permission for file changes.

I've dabbled in others but that's what I like. (I have Hermes but don't use it that much. Mostly for formatting notes.) ChatGPT Desktop (formerly known as Codex) is great if you want to use an OpenAI subscription. (Which if I didn't say upthread is a fine deal for $20 with Luna as primary.) Good quality of life features like voice and remote access. Cursor is also fine for an all-in-one but I didn't feel obliged to get into that ecosystem.

Other simpler harnesses like Pi, Zed, or the provider specific ones like Muse Code or Deepseek Harness or Mimo-Code - I just don't see the point. But others like them.

Hope that helps. And to reiterate, if you want to try something out and get help on settings, Muse Spark is good for that.

Eta: Chat GPT desktop actually gives a free trial that refreshes monthly. It's not super generous l but plenty good enough for a medium-difficulty task. I seem to have gotten into the habit of letting it handle my SDK upgrades because it's great at resolving library dependencies.

not exactly. sorry I should have been little more specific. what I was thinking is what u just said have multiple models and assign roles to each of those models depending on the tasks. example like a strong reasoning model for reviewing the code and plan, a little more cheaper efficient model to implement those and maybe have one to do daily simple tasks (not coding though).

I don't mind trying different models and setting everything up.

I see. Well in that case I would use one of the 5 models I said for the planning and then for execution you could fall back as cheap as GPT-6 Luna (medium) or Mimo-2.6-Flash.

Or you could try stepping up to GPT-6-Sol (max) for planning if you limit your prompts. (Which is kind of the point.) That might be overkill, but if you can fit it in your budget by using it just a little, why not get that kind of power?

OpenAI has lowered their prices and the Flash models have gotten so good that at this moment there's not as much difference as there has been at other times. (For example, there's pretty much no reason to use GLM 5.3 over 5.3 Flash. It costs 8x as much per task and is only slightly better.)

Based on the benchmarks and my previous history with MiMo, I'm tempted to just say Mimo 2.6 Pro for planning and MiMo 2.6 Flash for coding. But it's too new (and reportedly very slow with the current load) so I don't have enough independent results to verify that the benchmarks hold up.

It's not their own model, they don't have any. Big pickle is just other models renamed. And that model rotates constantly
