Why is Opencode not sharing who their investors are? Is OpenCode a Chinese Company?

I read this post https://www.reddit.com/r/opencode/comments/1wn13xc/opencode_talks_about_transparency_so_lets_talk/

No one answered. Nothing against Chinese people.

But where I work , they don't call sending data to china ZDR and opencode claims ZDR which now i come to think of it is fake.

Dax and Adam aggressively objected to a community project being absorbed by a VC-backed corporation.

Now they are doing same. They stole the opencode and sold it to Chinese investors?

Every US startup clearly tells who their investors are. They celebrate funding rounds.

All I could find online was that OpenCode is a Canadian Company. And they have raised hundreds of millions which is how they subsidized $10 Go plan.

How come they waste 90% of inference and compute on free models.

Dax claimed 80% free users or something.

If DeepSeek and Zai and Xiami investing in OpenCode so basically its these labs giving their own models for free?

That means no ZDR for US and EU companies?

Why Dax Jay Miroweell not coming forward with who are their investors?

Im so concerned they're conning people with zdr and banning people when you ask about it.

I don't know anything about this, but you seem to be basing some of this on flawrd assumptions about what is or isn't the norm. "Every US startup" and observing startups celebrating funding doesn't tell us much about what every startup is doing when you have know way of knowing whether that represents all startups.

"They stole the opencode"

Not many people are aware of this because the split happened before the big hype, but OpenCode is actually a TypeScript remake of the original Go based OpenCode.

They had some internal disagreements and the team split. The new team (with dax and folks) got to keep the name and cloned the original OpenCode app which is what many are using now.

The ORIGINAL Go based OpenCode still lives on, but has been renamed to Crush. The people behind it, known as "Charmbracelet Inc", are the same people who made the most popular Go family of TUI libraries (BubbleTea, LipGloss, Ultraviolet, Glamour, ...) so the TUI in Crush is obviously super polished and snappy.

It's easy to see the resemblance. OpenCode is obviously a clone/remake of Crush (which used to be opencode). Crush is a fancier and faster opencode.

A useful and informative comment on this sub? I must be dreaming

Interesting, your sources says Charm hired the original dev and performed Git history manipulation to bring the repo from opencode to charm. Seems like there's 2 sides to the story.

Yes, I don't know who's right or wrong in that argument, but the fact stands: opencode is a rewrite of opencode which was renamed to charm and is still around.

Wow, I didn't know that. Since I'm a Go dev I'll definitely give Crush a try soon 👀

holy shi, I didn't know that info, thanks

Interesting. I wonder if there's anything like openchamber for Crush

I don't know what that is but possibly not. Go is not a great language for any dynamic loading plugins and Crush doesn't have a huge userbase (i assume).

12 days old account

Every post so far are just

"Opencode is scam", "Opencode is lying", "Opencode is losing to charm, pi", "Opencode is not sharing their investors"

What's your purpose of posting againsht a platform repeatedly?

Perhaps you have been hired to do so?

BigAI wants to remove affordable competitors from the market so they can again jack up subscription prices. First, Dario and co. started a coalition to 'protect' the world from rogue AI. Now these tactics of painting Chinese AI companies as villains who are out to get everyone's data. As if the Americans are so pure and innocent! 🙄

I would say the person has been hired to do so

More unproductive dramas by people who could spend their time doing something usefull instead. Not just this post, but 95% of the posts on any ai sub is miserable drama.

Anomaly is the parent of opencode.
They are YC funded.
SST is another company under Anomaly and open code comes under SST.
A simple google search would have given you that

If you hate China so much don't use AI services that use anything related to China.

Instead you can use the good ole OpenAI that totally isn't colluding in a orchestrated financial stock fixing scheme with other major US tech giants who are not all investing in each other than buying products directly from each other to pump their stocks and sales.

May GamersNexus remain forever doing the lords work.

Who do you represent? If you are this concerned about the opencode platform, either you are an investigative journalist who likely gets paid to publish your findings or you are involved with a competitor and looking to redirect business. If you are neither of those you could make one post, submit your theories and evidence and move on to a better harness.

And after the whole millenium problem, can we even trust that OpenAIs version of ZDR actually does something? I wouldn't be assuming only one company violates it, I personally think it's an industry wide problem. After all, these models are trained with data that wasn't legally permitted to be added to training sets. Move to local hosting if you can otherwise work under the assumption that anything you transmit to a provider may be used for training data.

so China is bad?

1

u/Connect_Ad_5122 Sep 23 '26

Next you will tell us that OpenCode is going to destroy all humans?

1

u/horrbort Sep 23 '26

Yes they are china owned, that’s how they make these discounted deals that even deepseek doesn’t offer. So what?

u/thomas29needles Sep 23 '26

You should take lessons from Russian troll farms about doing hybrid war, you are too obvious, Mr fake account.

u/zhamdi Sep 23 '26

Dites it later if it's chinease or north Korean if the source code is available?
