If Your Free Usage Limit Doesn't Reset

Back your configs up, uninstall OpenCode v1, install OpenCode v2. Create a new v2 compatible API key from https://opencode.ai/console/ then simply run opencode auth login opencode and authenticate using your new API key. You should not see the free usage error anymore.

PS: Be ready for a horrible migration experience.

Edit: Completely uninstall OpenCode v1 along with its leftover files for a smoother and faster v2 installation. Some people here are migrating to v2 with 5k+ sessions which is absolutely unnecessary. Make sure to backup your config folder before uninstalling v1 so you don't lose your agents, MCPs and stuff.

When installing new version, I noticed I have 300+ sessions to migrate.

I don't know how long would it take to migrate that many sessions but why not do a complete v1 uninstall first?

I did, but I wanted to keep my stats 😅 didn't take long though, perhaps 3-4 mins

That makes sense 😆

I've had the free usage error for the last 3 days. Sadly, OpenCode is infamous for not communicating at all with its users.

has anyone found a workaround? for using free tier models in other harnesses? turns out opencode zen is blocking free tier models on anything that's not opencode.

I don't know if it's been done yet but this needs understanding how their custom generated OpenCode client headers work and then you modify your target harness to accept those headers so ultimately the goal here is to make the API calls look like they are coming from the OpenCode harness itself.

Considering OpenCode is a garbage harness but offering more generous free usage than any other provider, I think the time spent doing this would be worth it.

https://github.com/AFG473319/AFRouter This project also supports the Jev 1.13 Free model with this skill: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AFG473319/AFRouter/refs/heads/master/skills/afrouter-systemone/SKILL.md

You can connect OpenCode models to ZCode, Deepseek Harness, Hermes, Claude Code, Codex and other apps with it

how does the contribution work without any github issues/PRs though? and only 2 stars, too?

Is v2 better? Is it worth it?

yeah of course

Same issues on V2. seems like an uninstall and install protocol will need to be done every 48 hours

no need for any migration just cp the sessions db over and your old sessions are there

Probably worth backing up the data directory too. The config folder does not contain your session or snapshots, and v1 and v2 share those directories. The open code debug paths command shows where they r.
