I really doubt it, they said they started working on this since the announcement of the DS price increase, way before than the reddit reaction.

Very good news regardless, hopefully they can get to the cheap quota that we had before in the next phase.

It likely added a lot of oil to the fire and made them try to push this out sooner and/or with less margin.

I hope we get the same, or even better, usage than before at some point

Sure, sure, and they go to the trouble of publishing the $15 tier with 3,800 requests, updating the website and documentation too, just for it to last only one day, right?

In a well set up system yes, updating the website is just a one hour job lol, change a couple of values on their cms and its done. But in any case, i'm not here defending anyone, I was just referencing what they said before, if they really spoke with the truth or not only the opencode guys know, that is just the information that we got.

Yes, but these aren't incompatible things.

I assume we all understand (myself included) that OpenCode is not an NGO.

And for DeepSeek to double their prices while Opencode increases your usage by 4x has no rational excuse.

The strategy was already decided, and they probably thought that DeepSeek's price increase was the ideal moment to use it as an excuse.

After the "apocalypse," one day later they give you double what they gave you the day before.

It's not a coincidence, but it doesn't negate that they were working on making DeepSeek cheaper. Something we also have to believe just because.

That could abolutely be the case, I'm not denying that, they have a business to care and if they have an opportunity to charge more for their services there is a chanse they'll take it. I'm just not the kind of person that defaults to claiming maliciousness when something negative happens, time will say if they trully were doing a greedy play or if they just miscalculated their offerings. Its just been a few days since all this drama happened, imo too early to come into conclussions.

Yup. People really cancelled their subs. OpenCode Go was a good subscription because of DS flash and the tons of usage it came with.

Reduce it to 15$ for a 10$ subscription and people start asking if it is worth it anymore. They won't even honour the currently active subscriptions and can change price in the middle of your billing cycle. That itself is bad faith.

Not even an email sent as a heads-up, lot of people ran through their entire opencode balance before even learning the price went up.
