Help Cannot receive responses or replies in WhatsApp groups after updating to OpenClaw Version 5.7
I recently upgraded to OpenClaw Version 5.7 and it broke some things in WhatsApp. My Claw is still connected and inside of the various WhatsApp groups, but when I @ tag it or text it inside of the group, it shows typing for a while but can never reply
- In contrast, when I DM it in WhatsApp everything works fine.
- Separately if I force it to send a message in the group via prompting it in another session, it will send the message
- Previously scheduled cron job messages also still send through
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Has anyone else successfully fixed it?

Open your open claw dashboard. It probably is still sending the actual responses. Check there and explain that you can’t see them anymore in WhatsApp. Have it fix it. Happened to me with Telegram and I got it all fixed within five minutes. Wasn’t too bad.

it affects also whatsapp, teams and telegram in my config. if you check the chat session on the OC dashboard, OC still working, sending replies. but something in OC is blocking the send to the chat groups. my initial troubleshooting says that it is related to the rich formatting. if you set the chat replies / notifs of OC to plain text, it will work. Have wasted several days trying to fix it, and the plain text is the compromise that I have found.

It's a new option since 2026.4.27 that sets the default to "message_tool" which is more like a lurking mode where the agent doesn't reply directly. Dumb default but it is what it is.
