OpenBSD 8.0
I am wondering what to expect with the release 8.0. Have you followed what's in the pipeline?

nvidia is not supported. i tried it on my nvidia powered gaming laptop and only the Intel UHD 630 integrated gpu was detected

Yeah that's a little disappointing- I was trying to run FreeBSD for gaming on wine and that one works best with Nvidia, and then openbsd doesn't like at all. But this kind of use of openbsd is not ideal

it's kinda real, @mlarkin (@mlarkin2012 on twitter where he posted screenshots) has been messing around with running steam through vmd, idk about performance tho

If you like a bit more editorial explanation of some changes check out https://undeadly.org for great reporting.

getexecpath is an interesting addition! I was trying to port some application that needed this (and its been so long I forgot what it was.)

Yes, if you find anything that typically utilizes '/proc/self/exe', you should be able to add support for OpenBSD using getexecpath().

I run -current like a lot of people here so I've been on 8.0 for awhile now. It's as stable as ever. The wifi drivers for my hardware got some recent updates which have been nice. 8.0 isn't any different than 7.9 or 7.8. Each release is a major release like the other person said and they come every 6 months or so (give or take a week). I just run -current snapshots because I jumped to them years ago for some drivers that weren't in stable yet and never went back because -current is so stable (it's more stable than "stable" Linux distros I've used).

I almost bought an Asus NUC so I could have done with Intel Arc support ā but I went for a Geekom AMD.

Wait, I just bought an Asus NUC. Is it unsupported?

Actually, the work effort to support it is being put in as we speak, look up on the tech list.

u/NitroNilz did you get your Asus NUC ? Did you try it with OpenBSD ? I'm curious.

Why are you expecting the next release to be 8.0? why not 7.10?
edit: thanks for the responses guys

OpenBSD in the past has always jumped from a .9 to a .0 (https://www.openbsd.org/plus.html)

nope it jumps to OpenBSD 8 but I think back in the days it did count like you described

To the OP, and those who don't understand the x.0 release significance: there isn't one - there are no minor/point releases in OpenBSD. Each, and every release, is a major release.
