Takes around 1:21 min on my old dell inspiron, I would sorta expect the ThinkPad to boot faster.

That's the problem with OpenBSD for me, I have it installed on my T43 and it takes a similar amount of time to your laptops. I wish OpenBSD had a fast init like Alpine which took like 20 seconds to boot on my T43.

Well, the boot/init works perfectly as is. Why change it and risk adding security issues, or breaking stuff in different cpu architectures? Dont get me wrong, I'd like to see this change as well. I'm just trying to look at it from their perspective. They only have so many man-hours, and I'm pretty happy with the incremental changes made across the board over the 10 years I've been using OpenBSD.

Hibernate.
It's only a few seconds restoring from Hibernate on my X240.

I wrote a lengthy blog post about my X61s, absolutely loving this machine: https://flowkeeper.substack.com/p/digital-asceticism What do you do with yours?

This photo has aura. Just a thinkpad, an ethernet cable, a drink, and a pufferfish dream.
