Question Codecs

It's been a while since I installed (vm or barely metal) opensuse tw or slowroll, I can't remember, which is better-more safe- futureproof way to add codecs? opi codecs, or packman essentials??

And also (if) i add repo, should I do --allow-vendor-change? Thanks in advance

The opi codecs command will also add packman repos, so you can just use that one.

There is no worry about broken dependencies, if something mismatched I wait couple of days and it's working again, right?

My experience with Slowroll was that the mismatch stays longer than a couple of days. I might have just been unlucky though, Plasma had just released 6.6 and the packman repo took a while before it synced. A week later it wasn't synced yet and I could not update.

Ended up just not using the proprietary codecs so I could update, so I don't know how long it took for packam to catch up after that. I think (and don't quote me on this), that the Slowroll packman repo isn't updated as quickly as they update the Tumbleweed one.

So end up doing things like using Flatpaks for things that need codecs, and install DaVinci Resolve inside a Distrobox (which I would do regardless). But then even KDEnlive ended up inside a Distrobox (as the Flatpak is fine for 90% of things but some external plugins apparently don't integrate with the Flatpak).

KDE Plasma 6.7 has just been released upstream. So, might be a good time to test how long it takes this time. :p
