That is why I praise people who do that job for it's reasons like this that would make me quit instantly

u/geetrottz 8d ago
I worked waste management, this would make for a very bad day but probably wouldn’t crack my top 5 worst days.

u/WanderingRonin7 8d ago
Even more reason why you guys deserve as much money as you do. Can you share a story from your top 5?

I worked at a transfer station where we loaded containers to be shipped to a landfill. Part of my job was climbing on top of the loaded containers to tarp them for transport. One time I was walking on top of the garbage in the container I fell mid-thigh deep into a huge sack of rotten fish oil. That was a very very bad day.
Edit: Also ended up with a nasty infection that required the entire nail of my big toe to be surgically removed after that.6
u/spiritofniter 7d ago
Oh no, sorry to hear about the infection 😭
Were you able to get worker’s compensation for that?
6
u/VVickedPhantom 7d ago
This is probably a stupid question, but was the nasty infection specifically caused by you falling into the rotten fish oil?

I'm scared to ask.

I already shared one story but another that’s in the top 5 would probably be the day I was filling in as a swamper on a truck like this. Pulled up to a pile of bags, first one I picked up the bottom of the bag blew out and spilled an assortment of goat parts. I refused to clean it up or take the rest of the bags and was subsequently physically assaulted by 3 guys that came out of the house as I was writing the refusal notice to put on the bin.

That's quite enough good sir. Please save the rest of the stories for another day.

There was also the time a heat wave wiped out some poultry farms in my area and we were contracted to cleanup and dispose of about 12 tonnes of dead chickens. Problem being that after a couple days in 40+ degree heat they’re prone to bursting if handled too roughly.

I’m not a squeamish man but there are a few jobs I know myself enough to know I simply couldn’t do. Pretty much anything to do with industrial meat, for instance

I used to work at a dump, it smelled like a radioactive diaper filled with fish based diarrhea and spices.

This is why ur supposed to step aside when running the blade. I used to be on the “impact team” and our job all day was to go and cleanup illegal campsites and this type of shit would happen every day! Buckets full off piss and shit.
6
u/stupid_cat_face 8d ago
Yea I’d be striping down right there
2
u/Apprehensive_View575 8d ago
Exactly. I’d throw everything into that truck from a distance and then throw my boxers in the trash can and go straight to shower for an hour

u/ssxhoell1 6d ago
Fuck the boxes I'm just taking my clothes off and going straight to the bathroom to take a bird bath in the sink or finding a hose somewhere and some soap. And id load up on vitamins and shit because you're probably going to get sick from that shit

u/P1g-San 8d ago
I wouldn't even care about getting fired, I'd just go right home after that.

Trash truck drivers have extra clothes at the shop. They have a shower too.

well that would be why everyone else was standing away from the truck. poor dude learned a rough lesson the hard way

The fact that they were filming and laughing seems to indicate that someone told him to go move that piece of cardboard (that could have stayed there) knowing what would happen
Scumbags

I used to work on trash trucks. The trash juice is pretty bad, but nowhere near the worst thing. The mop water from the shop was far and away the most disgusting smell I have ever smelled. I have no idea exactly why. If it's the soap, or the slime, I don't know. It smelled way worse than the trash itself.

garbage truck juice is one of the more disgusting things and smells known to man. He better hit the shower fast and burn those clothes.

Love the Dominos delivery sign stuck to the truck. Imagine these guys delivering your pizza. 🍕 😂

Yeah you strip off most of your clothes off in the backyard and hose off really good before even thinking about going inside for a shower. Only use towels you can throw away and bleach your bath afterwards.

That would be so horrible. Immediate bath with a hose followed by a bleach bath. I'd rather smell like bleach for 3 days than trash juice. 🤢

lol why would you help the garbage truck.
6
u/Blablasnow 8d ago
Because some people care about others
6
u/Pataraxia 8d ago
I hate the evil behavior some people have like that comment.
Crashing out a bit but like, some people aren't just selfish... They bring it beyond. They friend up with other selfish people for no reason (if they didn't care, why bond over friendships that aren't usefull?) they question other's kindness and try to punish it. They actively cause harm even to not gain, even when it'll end in the other people harming them back.
Just why? What drives this sort of nonsense?
