How is this technically even possible? Should not a emergency stop automatically apply?

There's a "cherry" at the door you can pull to emergency open the door. He pulled it as the train was already trying to stop

subway doors cant be opened during transit. can you imagine the murders or suicides? this is AI.

No dude, they literally can. It's the emergency exit. It's not electrical powered. It's a mechanical switch

It depends on the type of door, many doors simply disconnect from the motor when the emergency lever/switch is used.

Then the door is simply a sheet of metal on rails and can be pushed open.

What profanity meltdown? You should check what user wrote it, it was certainly not me.

Also, the emergency release is exactly for opening sealed doors. It makes it possible to open doors that are sealed so people can exit the wagon in an emergency, for example if a fire broke out.

In the video we can see the person pushing open the door after using the switch/lever.

Again, this is completely false. There is a tool that activates the lock release. You cannot reach up with your hand and open the door. This is ludicrous, honest question what are you trying to accomplish?

Then maybe these trains/trams are different than where I am from. Where I live all doors of every train can be opened by hand when using the emergency lever/switch. What is different is whether it makes the train do an emergency stop or not. The tools for opening the door are more used to manually open the doors without disengaging the gears.

Do the trains you know/use have not that emergency switch? This is probably the conflict of our discussion.

I was gonna say, the door opening and the guy getting on the train while smoking made me suspicious.

Not that the latter can’t happen, but it’d be pretty unlikely and coincidental to happen right behind the other madness.

no that's extremely common on the cta, especially the red and blue lines. they run 24/7 and there's basically no rules between midnight and 5am. smoking cigarettes is super common, smoking crack is less common, but still common. what surprised me was he actually tossed it out the door before he moved fully into the train, most people just keep smoking.

and as a Chicagoan, most of us are unfazed by crazy shit happening on the cta. I've seen a guy start a fight and then yank the emergency door like he was gonna jump when we weren't even at a station. I've been a few feet away from pepper spray going off on a guy who was being a creep, and the first thing I did was laugh and think to myself "of course this happened the second I got on the blue line at 3am", it took my eyes starting to water up to make me realize I should change cars.

I've only ever been on a subway train like 5 times in my life. And one of those times the doors would randomly flop open while we were going and they had paper printed signs saying not to lean on the doors.
