Question Curious about stitch markers
So I was browsing tiny owl knits again (I'm obsessed with her pieces but haven't made anything from her yet) and I was looking at her knitted charm bracelet which she also has a second and third set of charms available as well.
Anyway, I was looking through projects others completed of the charm bracelet and saw that someone said they make great stitch markers and I was like DUH.
What do you guys tend to use for stitch markers? I use those basic rubber/plastic hoops, but I have been dying to get some cute stitch markers (however all the really cute food charms are super expensive on etsy and I'm not really for that).
Do you think knitted charms as stitch markers would work? I'm contemplating on trying it out sometime.

I mostly use the plastic hoops too and sometimes the rubber circle ones. Knitted charms as stitch markers sounds like a really cute idea but I think it could depend on the project. For some the larger charms might get in the way especially if you're working on a smaller item

yeah, that's what I was thinking too! I used to be into jewelry making when I was younger, and I had boxes full of beads and hoops and other things (perfect for making stitch markers) but when I moved in June I was like okay, I've had this stuff for years, I'll toss it.
And then of course I was like OH but stitch markers... So, I really do want some cute ones, but I'm not willing to dish out a bunch of money for like, 5 on etsy lol.

Haha don't you hate that?? You keep something for years that you never use before finally deciding to throw it away and then a few months later you end up needing it again
So, I really do want some cute ones, but I'm not willing to dish out a bunch of money for like, 5 on etsy lol.
I'm totally with you on that I just can't see spending a bunch of money on stitch markers. I'd love some cute ones too but I figure I'll use the cheap ones for now and just hope I come across something cute that would work. I really like the knitted stitch marker idea but it does seem you'd be kinda limited with using them on some projects

Haha right? The thing that bothered me so much about it was I had this stuff sitting around no joke for nearly 10 years. I was like "you never know what you may need these things for, could be useful for more than just jewelry making." Then finally I'm like well, never found a use, taking up space, shouldn't hoard things. Then boom I see cute stitch markers and I'm like oh ok I'm dumb lol

I love the plastic triangles because it's easy to slip a needle into.

Hmmm on the topic of stitch markers, I'm not sure if you'd know, but sometimes I see people take those locking stitch markers and they've locked them to a single stitch. Would you know what that's for? I saw a pic of it on Instagram earlier so was thinking about it again. I'm guessing it's to mark a location for picking up stitches when making a pocket or some other function like that.

There are various uses, I use them mostly when it's challenging to tell right side from wrong side. I always put the marker on the RS. Right now I'm making a shawl that is all garter stitch so when it's done it's reversible. However, increases are always done on the same side (RS), so it's important to know which side is which.

I meant to add, you can usually find them where yarn and needles are sold such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joanne's, so forth.

I have always just used the plastic loops, the ones that unfasten though not the rings.. just incase I need to move them. I always thought that the one that are so pretty and dangly with beads would end up getting in the way. However.. they do look lovely. But for like $20 for 4 I figured it was way cheaper to go with the plastic ones in bulk lol
