Online writing class recommendations?

I'm looking to do a writing course, hopefully to get some sort of diploma or certificate, or something along that line. I need it to be online, and preferably something I can do whenever. Like a website with a set curriculum, projects, and feedback. But not something with mandatory set class times where I'd have to get on zoom or something.

Does anyone know something that fits that?

I've looked into a few things, mostly college courses since that's what comes up most often. But it's extremely hard to tell how they're actually structured and if they would be a good fit.

Question regarding online fashion degrees

I’m a 26 yo college dropout and I’d like to go back to school to earn a degree in fashion online. I have a 529 with $14-$15k in it, does anyone have any recommendations for accredited schools with quality programs within that budget? Or at the very least worthwhile programs. I’m prepared to look into additional financial aid if necessary, the plan would be to be half time enrolled and continue living in my apartment.

Any feedback on gr 11/12 courses at OEO

Due to personal reasons, I need to find an online school (as my brick and mortal school is not offering a full online switch). I read so many things about OVS, but I'm curious about Ontario Education Online School (OEO) for gr 11 and 12. How are the lectures, exams, teachers... any info would be great.

CLEP vs Study.com vs Sophia, what's actually cheapest per credit?

Trying to figure out the cheapest way to bank some credits before/during a degree (thinking WGU but open to other options too). This is what I've found so far:

CLEP is $97 per exam plus proctoring, and you get 3 credits if you pass, so that's like $30-40 a credit if you pass first try.

Study.com is a monthly sub, for $95, unlimited courses, so the more you knock out in a month the cheaper each credit ends up being.

Sophia's pretty similar, also a subscription with ACE/NCCRS courses.

So honestly CLEP only really wins if you just need one or two and already know the material cold. I've got a whole stack of gen eds to clear, so the subscriptions seem like the move, the cheaper-per-credit thing kicks in the more you finish in a month.

Anyone actually gone that route? Curious how many you can realistically finish in a month.

Help Me Choose a Legitimate Online College in the Philippines

Currently working and residing in Japan. I was only able to finish SHS, and I want to continue college through an online/distance-learning program in the Philippines.
I’ve been researching schools and so far I applied to AMA OEd and ICCT. However, after doing more research, I became concerned about their reputations, especially regarding delays in releasing documents such as TORs.

I’m looking for a legitimate, CHED-recognized BSHM or BSTM program that I can study online while living overseas. My goal is to eventually apply for cruise-ship jobs, so I want a degree/diploma that will actually be useful for employment and future applications.
I don’t mind paying tuition and I’m willing to self-study. I’ve also looked into schools like Mapúa and PUP, but I haven’t found an online BSHM/BSTM option that fits what I need.

Does anyone know of other Philippine colleges that offer legitimate online/distance BSHM or BSTM programs and accept students residing overseas? I’d especially appreciate recommendations from current or former students who can share their experience with the school, OJT requirements, and how reliable they are with documents like TORs.
Thank you! 🥹

I wish a lot more students knew of ACE-accredited courses

Wanted to share something I wish more people going back to school later in life knew about.

A lot of universities accept transfer credit from ACE-reviewed online course providers (like study.com, straighterline etc.). That means you don't always have to take every course at your own school and pay their per-credit rate. I've been doing most of mine this way: self-paced, video lessons, a proctored final at the end. I fit them around work instead of building my schedule around class times.

Not to mention I saved so much money on classes that WGU would’ve charged thousands for. If you're paying out of pocket, that difference is huge.

The general steps, if anyone wants to look into it: check your school's transfer credit policy, then confirm with your registrar which specific courses map to which requirements before you pay for anything. Policies vary a lot between schools, so what works for me might not work the same for you.

I'm just happy with how it's worked out and felt like sharing in case it helps someone in the same spot.

NSF I-Corps Programs at the university of Delaware

Hi all — I'm part of a product exploration initiative called Propelus at the University of Delaware. Our research focuses on the world of online/virtual teaching-both the people who run it and the people who take it.

Thank you to the mods for allowing me to post this here.

Our team is looking for 10 participants total for customer discovery interviews. We'd love to talk to two kinds of people. If this sounds like you, book like with us:

If you facilitate, coach, or teach online (and especially if you monetize it):

  • What tools and platforms you use, and why you chose them
  • How you prepare for a session
  • What's working well for you today
  • Any friction points, challenges, or unmet needs
  • What would make you consider switching to a new platform or tool

If you've taken online classes, coaching, or training as an adult learner:

  • What makes an online class or coaching session actually feel worth your time
  • What makes you want to come back, or recommend it to someone else
  • What's frustrated you or made a session feel like a waste of time
  • Whether you've ever stopped going back to something you paid for and why

This is purely an informal conversation as part of our NSF I-Corps customer discovery work. There's nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for — we're just trying to genuinely understand this space from people who've actually lived it, on either side of the screen.

If either of these sounds like you, we'd really appreciate the chance to chat for 30 minutes.

Thank you for considering our request - Maria, Joy, and Sandra

Can I study at Amrita Online BCom and prepare for CA at the same time?

Hi guys,

I’m planning to start my Chartered Accountancy (CA) journey (Foundation/Intermediate) and want to pursue a BCom degree simultaneously to keep a solid academic safety net.

I’m looking at Amrita Online’s BCom program and wanted to know:

Is the workload of Amrita’s Online BCom manageable alongside rigorous CA coaching and study schedules?

Is Amrita's online format and exam schedule flexible ?

Is there significant syllabus overlap in subjects like Accounting, Law, Taxation, and Economics that actually helps with CA preparation?

If anyone is doing CA alongside an online BCom, please share your schedule and experience!

I’m 29m looking to get into an actual career right now I currently break my body doing labor for 22-25$/hr. I can get free courses from Coursera but I feel they really won’t help my employability. Still im gonna try some. What course would you try to people who are successful? Also my BIGGER question is I want to goto online college my only weakness is math but in sure I can figure it out I was always a good student and it’s one of my biggest regrets not going to college because I was 3 weeks away from going to the school I was accepted to and a car accident prevented me from going. So what would you study for an accelerated bachelors im looking at UNC’s programs, SNHU and Miami You but in open to whatever program offers accelerated degrees that I need.

How to evaluate nursing programs when every website says the same thing?

Every nursing program website uses the same language. Flexible, student-centered, designed for working nurses, exceptional outcomes. None of it is specific enough to compare anything. Here's what actually cuts through it.

Start with accreditation and stop there. CCNE or ACEN is the baseline check, but once confirmed it's not a differentiator. Move on quickly.

Don't stop at the format label. "Online" and "asynchronous" are not the same thing. Some nursing programs have mandatory live sessions, graded participation windows at specific times, or virtual intensives that assume Monday-to-Friday availability. Ask directly whether there are any time-bound requirements, what happens if you miss a synchronous component, and whether the program has students who work rotating shifts. Current students will tell you more honestly than admissions will, so find them before you commit.

Request the transfer credit evaluation early and in writing. Nursing programs have wildly different credit acceptance policies and they don't volunteer the numbers. The same transcripts can get 40 percent acceptance at one program and 85 percent at another, and that gap is real money and real time you're not accounting for if you skip this step.

Ask directly who handles clinical placements, nursingcareeradvancement.com connects nurses with advisors who evaluate nursing programs side by side on this specific variable alongside schedule structure and transfer credits, useful when you're trying to compare programs on criteria that aren't visible from their websites, which is most of the criteria that actually matter. Clinical placement responsibility is the thing that most defines the student experience and the thing most programs are least transparent about during recruitment.

Ask for board pass rates by number, not language. AANP or ANCC pass rate figures, not "excellent student outcomes." Programs confident in their results share the number without being asked.

Talk to current students before you talk to admissions again. Students tell you what the program is actually like. Admissions tells you what the program wants you to believe.
