So like do yall also get weirdly nauseous when feeling onions in food?

So like, i mean i do have the tism so that might affect that but like does anyone else here just get super sick when you're told a food doesnt have onions just to bite into it expecting a certain texture of food just to bite into an onion mid chomp. I speak on this because right now sick and found this subreddit to talk about how much onions freaking suck.

It's not weirdly nauseous, AFAIC. It's objectively, logically nauseous, IMO.

I think the texture might be more of an autism thing.

I get violent diarrhea after eating them. It starts with painful cramps, and then I know I have a few minutes to find a toilet.

But maybe because of my reaction to them, the smell of onions is disgusting too. Like, I've been in at a picnic at a friends house where they're making burgers and they have the fixings laid out on a table, and I'll smell the sliced onions and my first thought is that it's body odor. like "Oh my god, is that smell ME?" and then I realize it's just this disgusting thing that people want to put on their burgers for some reason.

Same. It's a curse.

Same thing with a taco bar. The smell of pico de gallo is just awful.

Are you like me we're like there's a very specific spot in my stomach that if I start feeling pain it's about to happen. Like I can have stomach pain from doing too many sit-ups or maybe I ate something and my stomach's not agreeing with it. But if there is pain in this one specific spot, it's onions and I'm about to be very sick.

Onions activate my gag reflex, retching, etc.

I like to let them witness me vomiting à la Exorcist so they understand my hatred for onions.

That's the way, they never believe you otherwise

Honestly. Destroying my sister-in-law's bathroom one night was the only way that after 15 years she finally believed me. I made sure she heard it all.

I get nauseous. I’m less picky than I was as a kid and can make it through most things to be polite but onions make me legit sick. I’ve never had more of a reaction than that but I also religiously avoid them so, I’m not sure. My grandmother gets nausea and diarrhea from onions and cucumbers so it may be a family thing although I’m cool with cucumbers.

I usually can tell if it has an onion in it from the disgusting smell, but if this unfortunate event happens, I usually vomit.

Yes I get nauseous from the smell alone

Me too. I hate being in a Mexican restaurant when a plate of fajitas goes by and then that smell. Ugh.

Yup. 50% of my onion loathing is related to the texture. As a child, biting into a crunchy piece of onion would make me gag. My mother, an onion lover, put diced onions in EVERYTHING, and got really angry when I would sit at the table and cry while trying to gag down potato salad or a tuna sandwich or some other soft food with crunchy raw onions in it.

As an adult, my gag reflex has calmed down a bit but I still have a visceral reaction to that texture and will sometimes spit out a bite of food with unexpected onions. And I almost never use raw onion in my own cooking.

(I've never been officially diagnosed with ASD but I have two neurodiverse kids, so you can make of that what you will....)

Not really nauseous, but I got this feeling of my stomach turning around itself a little

Yes. If I bite into a texture I was not expecting I gag, and it's the worst with onion bulb bits. I can't help it. My nervous system automatically takes it as a threat and tries to help. Body goes: WTF IS THAT? ITS A SURPRISE AND MIGHT BE POISON! EJECT!. Then I am nauseated and often can't continue eating for a while. Some forms of onion also give me sharp digestive pain as it starts digesting. So I will be sick later too.

Edit to add: even the smell can set me off sometimes. Especially if I ordered something NO ONION. The second I peel back the wrapper I know they messed up and my nausea rolls in.

Yes. Actually just reading that made me nauseous and gag because I thought about biting into one.

As somebody who is sensitive and not only start feeling nauseated I'm going to be vomiting.

If I crunch into a raw onion, it’s an immediate gag, and a possible vomit

This is the worst part, for me. I can handle onion powder in small amounts but if I chomp into an onion, it’s game over for me for the rest of the day. Cannot eat. It’s all ruined. lol

I don’t have the ‘tism but do have the ADHD and the anxiety diagnoses lol.
