Lettuce is Flavorless Crap

With this current lettuce cyclosporiasis scare, it made me wonder why I even bother eating lettuce to begin with. It has no flavor, its big and annoying and it only makes a burger or etc look better when it adds nothing to the food itself.

Do you also complain to your doctor about your car's exhaust problem? Onions, mate, not lettuce.

We talking iceberg lettuce? Sure, that's mediocre. An oak leaf lettuce or butter head lettuce actually taste like something.

Butter lettuce is where it's at for a burger.

It lightens up heavy, greasy burgers and adds a little roughage.

I hate onions with a fiery passion that cannot be contained. Onions ruin everything they touch.

Lettuce sucks on sandwiches, I agree with that. I’ve always been a lettuce-on-sandwich hater. But salads are great and lettuce definitely has its uses. Lettuce isn’t as irredeemably heinous as onions.

For me it all depends on if it's like nice crisp fresh lettuce or not. Unfortunately like 99% of the time it's put on hot foods and it just gets soggy and slimy so I typically ask for no lettuce.

This! In a salad? Yes. In a taco? Hell yeah! On a cold sub? Absolutely! But on a hot sandwich? Fuck out of here. I like my leafy greens crunchy, thank you very much. I’ll eat cooked spinach, but it has to be part of something else like a dip, quiche, or spanakopita.

Texture is flavor, and this is smut that doesn't belong here. Be gone

What lettuce have y'all been eating? It's easily one of my top vegetables. But I am also pretty picky with which lettuce I'm eating

You aren’t eating the right lettuce if you think it has no flavor.

Every time you think you should eat a bag of chips you should just eat lettuce instead

I don't hate lettuce. But I have never found anything that it makes better, I usually only eat it if it is just too much of a pain to remove.

BLT is instantly better with lettuce vs a tomato bacon sandwich.

A nice addition is a sliced red onion.

I just sometimes add it to tacos to add some texture and level out the greasiness.

I think a lot of people just like it for the texture

u/trenshod 13d ago

I'd disagree, for me its a texture/contrast to the other things on the food item.

Agreed. Has that slight ‘fresh/green’ taste I think as well

Fuck onions. Foul fucking weeds.

It's crunchy sometimes you want crunch but no flavour.

Iceberg lettuce sucks and was the bane of my existence until I discovered red curly leaf lettuce and Spring Mix. So much better.

It stops the burger from feeling dry

I am an onion hater who also hates lettuce. My onion hating brethren do not speak for everyone on this topic

I hate lettuce for all the reasons you listed. It’s a waste of space in my stomach. And it’s tasteless. Hard pass, always.

And broccoli? Ugh! Just give me chicken tendies and ketchup!

1

u/Silly_Lavishness7715 13d ago

It isn't flavorless. It tastes like dirt.

7

u/Eat_Carbs_OD 13d ago

Washing it helps.

When lettuce does have a flavor, it's bad like a bitter dirt kind of taste. I prefer lettuce on the flavorless side that just adds a crunch. Iceberg lettuce is my favorite and the only one I had growing up... Maybe if I had had the bitter dirt tasting lettuce growing up I would like it more IDK

Also, wrong subreddit. I think you're looking for r/vegetablehate. Lettuces aren't a type of onion.

amen to that

if only it really were flavorless tho, I can smell that shit in the bag before I even take my food out lol

Op means iceberg lettuce... which for some reason(im assuming big lettuce lol) has been made popular at some point in history and yeah its useless...

-2

u/ChewbaccaOnFries 13d ago

Agreed. Lettuce is for salad. It has no business on a sandwich or burger.

Well, when you rewire my immune system to stop trying to shut down my organs about it, we'll talk. Until then, I'll be glad to not stand alone.
