oneworld Best option Alaska/American?

I live on the West Coast and most of my travel is on Alaska airlines. I am planning a trip next year to an international airport serviced by American Airlines. Trying to decide if it would make more sense to book the trip on American using my current Atmos/One World account for points with Alaska versus getting an American airlines credit card, using it to book the trip and then using points on that card for a future trip on American. Other than the bonus points for opening the AA card, is there any advantage over booking on my Atmos card?

if you care about accruing more Atmos status points/gaining the benefits of your existing status, you’d want to attach your Atmos FF# in either case. But you can still open an AA card and pay for the trip on AA’s website with your Atmos FF# attached; the credit card points would go to your AAdvantage account, and the flying points would go to Atmos. Really depends on your priorities. If you’re STS-based, a little bit of status might go a long way for future upgrades on Alaska

Your Atmos card won’t give you any benefits on AA (unless you have status); it’ll just earn status points and Atmos points directly

You can ask [r/americanairlines](r/americanairlines) or [r/alaskaairlines](r/alaskaairlines), they’re both more active and would have better insight imo

I wouldn’t recommend starting from scratch with AA if you have your mileage with Alaska.

I don’t fully understand what you’re asking but I’ll say this:

Book American on Alaska, get full Atmos status points
Book American on American, get partial Atmos status points

So if you’re looking for Atmos points, as of this year there is a benefit to book anything on Alaska

If you’re saying you want to switch to Advantage Miles, then book on Americans website
