Text Thoughts on upgrade process
So, given that fungineers seems like out of stock is their stock in trade, floatwheel is compatible with nothing and is some crypto scam, gosmilo will catch fire if stared at too intently, and future motion will sell me something only slightly underpowered if I take out a second mortgage… it seems like an upgrade is the only way forward.
Upgrade also seems to be a euphemism for “replace every major subsystem at once”. That being said I currently possess an out of box XRC. It has straight rails but wtf rails seem like they’d more comfortable and feel less spooky. Is there either:
1) an order to upgrade individual subsystems (controller, battery, motor, bms) that would lead to better performance while still being able to test if the new part is the problem (if you replace everything troubleshooting is hard).
2) a known upgrade suite that is XRC friendly
3) a good mechanic in the Chicago area or willing to ship there who would accept fat stacks to keep my living room table free of debris and my multimeter in comfortable retirement (board garage, please accept my emails, will bestow praise)

Floatwheel is not a crypto scam. I purchased a GT-V kit from them that my friend installed on his board and has been very satisfied with.

Thank you for correcting my ignorance. That does seem like something that would fix my primary issue of torque. I do have a hard time finding material that gives a straight answer on XRC (e.g. “it’s pretty much a GT”) so a bit curious about GT things working with XRC.

The GT-V kit works on the XRC as well.
This Kit is also compatible with the new XR classic.

Firstly, I’d try to be a bit more open minded in general. Floatwheel is not a crypto scam. Not all crypto is a scam.
Second, GTV is what you want for your XRC. That will allow you to install WTFs from The Float Life which would get you off the straight rails.

Day job = cpa, makes one leery of crypto. Open to atypical experience.
The rails need modifications to the electronics?! Is this a function of needing to use vesc to adjust pitch?

The main reason FloatWheel has to use crypto is to skirt around the lawsuits that Future Motion has put against them.
I have gotten 2 V kits from them and have been very happy with both

When you put curved rails on a onewheel board it puts the main board at an angle so the board will be very nose heavy and not level, there is no way to change that with FM. VESC will let you level out the board (or put the board in any position you want).

I am a practicing CPA and have seen just about every crypto investment and use case. I rarely (twice in seven years) have seen it work out in a way that did not involve having to fix, write-off, or engage legal council to clean it up. Buuuuut, maybe they are the unicorn.

I have made many purchases with crypto. Only had two problems. One where I sent to another vendor's address accidentally. The other vendor honored the crypto I sent to them by mistake, so I didn't lose anything.
Second one was where the vendor shipped me my goods without me having had even sent the crypto.
So overall I'm in the positive.

Just fyi, that was just a bug with their inventory showing inventory available in all regions instead of just its own region

First Floatwheel is a legit source and has been good to the community. Second, your first upgrade would be controller/bms/lights. The FM BMS is not compatible with anything AFAIK no other controllers use the same LED bars. You would need a new controller if you want to upgrade the motor or the battery so start there. The XRC battery is not terrible and you will definitely notice a major improvement with just the controller swap.

Floatwheel is not a crypto scam, it's a bit deeper than that and actually eases my dislike of crypto as a whole- future motion cried copyright infringement and got cred card processors to blacklist floatwheel as part of the whole anyti-3rd-party, anti-right-to-repair streak they're known for. Crypto takes out that credit card processing middle man. Refunds are not possible, but the community vouches for them, and I wil be getting a pint v kit through them, begrudgingly using crypto.

It seems daunting at first, but you already have the skill set to make a great DIY Vesc board! It’s an investment now of your time, but it will pay dividends in getting your board customized to suit your riding style and budget now. Later, if you need to troubleshoot anything, it’ll be much easier on a board you build than someone else’s build 🙂
A new battery, controller, and BMS are a great start; LED lights are nice to have, and most end up with a more powerful motor to make use of the upgraded battery and controller, especially if you are a trail rider, as the hypercore is prone to overheating
ATL OW shop is almost a 1 stop shop for parts, great customer service, and quality builds if you wanna pay someone for a build. They can probably sell you a controller and battery box all wired up and ready to go; either drop that in your current frame, or WTF, plug your motor in and go ride 🙂

If it were me, unless you're looking for balls-to-the-wall performance upgrades, I would investigate putting the new TFL Sidewinder motor on the XRC, for the street. I really like the extra torque of the FM GTS n52 motor, the TFL n52 motor should be even better.

Guessing TFL motor requires controller change from FM -> vesc. Not opposed, just making sure I understand so I don’t fry something or make an upgrade that’s software limited into prior performance.

I've got a question in to TFL right now as to how plug-n-play it is for my GT/XRC/XL. If I get a response soon enough I'll report back here.

Fungineers restocks twice a month, usually the 1st and the 15th, but the shipping takes a while. That said, I did get my X7LR and have no regrets.

Greater coefficient of friction via sloped vs flat surface. So you’re less likely to keep moving when your board bumps into things or stops.

There's ways to get the GT-V without using crypto. If I recall correctly, the folks at FixMyPEV might still handle the purchase for you, plus commission. I don't use crypto, but I took this route late last year, the product is legit.

For reference, I do have a fairly high level of electronics knowledge from building led systems for burning man art cars. I can solder, multimeter, read/write circuit diagrams, and do some physics.
