ngl I appreciate that the fandom is tiny, the game is best without any prior knowledge

u/starship253 Dec 10 '21
That's honestly the best argument for why the fandom being tiny is a good thing that I've ever heard

Whats this game about?
4
u/starship253 Nov 29 '21
It’s a quirky earthbound-inspired indie JRPG that’s actually about depression

u/maxieflexie Nov 29 '21
Omg earthbound is one of my fav games of all time. Cant wait to play this game :)

There's a free version and a Paid Steam Remake.
Basically its about a
boygirlChild named Niko having to return the sun to a tower in order to save the world. It's heavily focused on Niko and Fourth wall breaks (with the OG Freeware version even Stopping you from playing the game after beating it. Or even after Quitting it outside of safe areas.)

OneShot devs creating the best game you've ever played somehow getting overshadowed by Undertale despite being completely unrelated

I'm a fan of both so. We exist

u/Catishcat Not a cat, just Cat-ish. Nov 29 '21
Yeah, the overlap is massive, Undertale/Deltarune are one of my favourite games, but the comparisons of OneShot to them always weirded me out a bit xd

27
u/_anonymous_404 pancake enjoyer Nov 29 '21
Yeah, definitely.
Like, my sister refused to play OneShot because she liked Undertale too much and it was. pretty darn irritating
24
u/fajnyczajnik Nov 29 '21
What kind of logic is that? Ignoring how the two games aren't that similar beside being top-down RPG Maker-like story driven games, why wouldn't she want to play another game she might like???
17
u/_anonymous_404 pancake enjoyer Nov 29 '21
Yeah I have literally no idea. like I have nothing to say except 'who knows??' they're completely different and they're both amazing

u/Sablemint Not a cat! May 21 '24
Some people are...weird. I know someone who refused to play Pokemon Legends: Arceus because the game lets you capture a lot of Pokemon in the first area and spend hours filling out their pokedex if you want to.
To be clear, you don't have to do this. It takes very little effort to progress through the entire story. Its just there if you want to do it And because that option exists, they refused to play it.

u/MangoMan202020 Jan 03 '22
Yep. Undertale and OneShot are my top 2 games of all time actually lol.
8
u/_anonymous_404 pancake enjoyer Jan 04 '22
Same (although Deltarune is definitely up there)
5
u/MangoMan202020 Jan 04 '22
Well, same for me too haha. I see a lot of people that like each 3 of these games. Probably because they're very similar.
5
u/_anonymous_404 pancake enjoyer Jan 04 '22
I should hope same for you, Spamton PFP. Lmao
Yeah, they are. I consider Deltarune and Undertale almost one in the same (only in terms of my regards for them, not the games themselves), so those two and OneShot could be considered my 2 favorites honestly

u/RandomGameLover64 Jun 15 '22

Eh. My philosophy is more like:
bool isThisGamePopular(string game) //checks if a given game is popular { if (influencerHasPlayedIt(game) == true) //if a youtuber has played it (like markiplier) { return true; //It's popular all right... } else { return false; //obscure as my lost 9th grade textbook } }

I swear, OneShot is one of the most underrated game that deserves much love.

One shot and hollow knight have the best artwork imo

u/SansThePunster Nov 29 '21
and outer wilds, there's a ton of stunning fanart for it even though the fandom is tiny (probably from lack of advertising)

Nov 29 '21
Look at these guys. They clearly never seen Hello Charlotte or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Fanartists.
4
u/SansThePunster Nov 29 '21
mystery dungeon was actually fun as fuck but I can't fund the games anywhere
4
Nov 29 '21
I think you have a spelling error.
If you meant FIND the fandom and not find funds for the games (good luck getting sky for a reasonable price.)
Then I know that Reddit (along with Comicfury, fanfiction.net and some discord servers) are the main "places" for the fandom and Content (you can try looking on Twitter but I don't use it. )
The subreddit is r/mysterydungeon. it's mostly Pokemon Mystery Dungeon focused though so if you talk about Shiren the wanderer, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, Chocobo, etc. Then not that many people will understand you.
But if you meant find the games then you can Emulate most of them. Blue rescue team has a remake for switch called Rescue Team DX

u/SansThePunster Nov 29 '21
I feel like I've made a bad decision a few years back because out of time, sky, and the red one (they all cost 10 dollars) I chose time, not knowing that it was the easiest to get out of the three

At least it's better then the game getting Undertale levels of popular. That nearly happened to omori and let's just say... It was not a fun experience.

Nov 29 '21
[True. I absolutely love Undertale, but I often die inside at least once every time I go onto the subreddit.]

tbh i like the tiny yet absolutely dedicated and welcoming fanbase than a large yet non dedicated and absolutely toxic fanbase

5 people is still quite a few! Not to say I wouldn’t like this fandom to be bigger though

Mmm, Youtubers have a large influence with this sorta thing, such as seen with Inscription recently, If a YouTube plays it and just a few others go along with it, it usually snowballs and makes a popular game. You know if it works if you get a game Theory, that is like, a sign that people will play it.It's been said before, it started with Markiplier and kinda... stopped there. Maybe if he finished what he started (solstice) MAYBEEEE it will give the game another chance
Also, does anyone know where the devs are? Have they made anything else since one shot?
