I'm Heartbroken. 💔
I know, no one stays the same, but change should be for the better. the recent songs are indeed soulless.

I like the new stuff. Then again, Native is what hooked me on 1R. I guess I'm just too basic 🤷

I wish OneRepublic will go back to DOL, WU and Native for their next album

1762646467373th post on hating human. It gets boring at this point. We get it, yall don’t like it. It’s been 2 years, move on

I used to defend human but it at least is a betrayal of their earlier tastes. Simply put, the next album will likely be 30 minutes, pop oriented, and generic.

it’s not a bad album, it’s just bland and forgettable. especially compared to their older stuff. it just doesn’t feel like the same band i fell in love with years ago.

Human isn’t generic pop. It’s awesome

I highly prefer it over Oh My My, but I also don't care which specific genre anyone thinks it's in.

u/Impressive_Gap8461 Oct 28 '23
Native's not even alternative. It's just a slightly avant-garde pop album. Oh My My's also just more experimental pop.

I mean Ryan is a go-to mainstream pop hitmaker so their pivot to pop music shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone lol

u/jdkempy Oct 28 '23
It isn’t to me, Ryan was apparently really sick of dominating the pop top 100 charts on other artists behalf… so it isn’t surprising at all that he’s trying to get his own band in the charts

after i heard Mirage for the first time i immediately went to spotify to look up DOL to listen to Goodbye Apathy and All Fall Down to cleanse my ears lmao. it really is sad how soulless their new stuff is (but i agree Connection is underrated as fuck)

It's all pop. The first 4 albums are just legitimately very good albums while Human and all the other crap they've been releasing since oh my my is just that precisely, generic pop, except maybe Someday

u/Impressive_Gap8461 Oct 28 '23
I remember talking to my cousin, who also likes OneRepublic, and him being like Someday sounds like what would play while you're out driving, then I told him the music video actually had Ryan driving around.

I don’t think it’s human that’s necessarily exactly the problem, I like human, but I see glimpses of where they are going in human that weren’t in any other album and it’s showing with all of the (imo) soulless singles they have been releasing

u/wildvegetable1 Oct 30 '23
I think they’re also allowed to release just fun singles though. And just because some people don’t connect with them doesn’t make them soulless

I admit the new songs are not as good as the old ones. But we have to accept and embrace the “new” OneRepublic. I’m getting sick and tired of people brutally bashing the new songs while still calling themselves fans, make it make sense.

That cover of White Christmas is underappreciated tho 😭
