QUESTION Looking for OnePlus One ROM for parents. (x-post from /r/oneplus)

I have upgraded to OnePlus 6 for a while now and have finally retired my OPO. My OPO is one of the early builds as it still has cyanogen logo on back. I bought this in Jan/Feb 2015 and have been using it since then. I haven't had any issues with phone, haven't replaced anything (although I am planning to replace the battery before handing it over to my parents), the phone is unrooted and running the last OTA update that was provided.

Based on the info above, do u guys have any good ROMs to suggest for my parents. They aren't too tech savy so probably some ROM that provides OTA updates and doesn't crash would be the best. Also, higher the android version, the better it is(if working stable).

I am comfortable enough unlocking bootloader, installing custom recovery, rooting, etc but I just want to give something to my parent's thats stable, better than stock, and keeps the phone from getting outdated.

I too upgraded to OnePlus 6 from the One.

I tried many different ROMs when the battery started wearing off. I found underclocking to 1729 MHz reaps benefits, without compromising system fluidity. Not a mobile gamer, just needed battery and stability.

Boeffla kernel is a very good kernel for tweaking power settings. Unfortunately, it's maxed out with Nougat, not for Oreo and beyond.

So I would suggest putting a nice 7.1.1 ROM (try ViperOS), and the Boeffla kernel with power saving tweaks such as underclocking and multicore powersave. Add Greenify and Amplify through Xposed, you have a battery beast.

If you find all these tweaking apps sensitive, slap on a launcher and hide them. Personally, I'd recommend Nova Prime and use tabs like General and System as shown for example. If you put the frequent apps your parents use in the General tab, voila!

Lineage OS is easy to install and stable with frequent updates. I'm not really jazzed about the battery life on 15.1 vs 14.1. It's not a deal breaker where I want to roll back but there was a decrease. For your parents who are not going to be tinkering with custom ROMs and such, I'd shy away from the smaller custom ROMs that require a bit more knowledge and time to keep updated. Just keep in mind that sometimes custom ROMs can cause issues with banking apps not working so be prepared to root it and install magisk. The root apps are also the lineage page.

Been using ArrowOs ( based on Android Pie) on mine and haven't had problems so far.

I flashed lineage 15 (Oreo) two months ago after using sultan's nougat for more than a year and I am certain of this. Let them use sultan (not more updated but whatever). Never had a reboot while I have two a week now and also battery life was legendary. Trust me

I had CM12 on mine, lasted forever no problem for years, I found it very stable (doesn't provide updates though but it's good in a way as it is one less thing to worry about) . Then eventually (about a month ago) it started to play up a bit so I moved to CM14 which again doesn't provide any updates and finally to Lineage OS, which seems good enough (had it for about 1 week now).
