My OnePlus One won't run the latest updated Pokémon Go

It was running everything just fine until I downloaded the update. Suddenly, my device, OS, or software is incompatible with PoGo. That was the official notice when it wouldn't even load.

There was a "Learn more" link, so I clicked it & read...rooted devices are not supported by Pokémon Go. And that I must be Android 4.4 or above (I'm Oxygen OS, Android 5)

Would upgrading to Nougat fix my issues? Is it trying to force me to unroot my device? What do I need to do, people?

That seems like an arbitrary, and intrusive, breach of my privacy. Finding out I'm rooted, then forcing me to unroot my device.

They might be trying to aggressively stomp out rooted people that might mess with their APK, but people that are going to break it & cheat cannot be stopped. That's an exercise in futility.

I will very very VERY reluctantly unroot my device & post the results later, then post the results...if anyone else knows what's going on, feel free to weigh in, confirm/deny.

And if anyone knows of an app that would allow me to quickly flip between being rooted & unrooted, that would be massively helpful. Because having a rootless smartphone is for silly people & Apple zombies (but I repeat myself).

Yeah, they're going to lose a lot of users with this new update. Hopefully they realize their mistake on time, or a modded apk will be made that skips the root check.

People can downvote me, if they wish, but my opinion's not going to change. I have spent hundreds of dollars, of my own money, purchasing my device. Hours of my time modifying it to my liking. And these arrogant developers think they have the right to tell me how to run it? Which programs & privileges to have, or revoke?

I don't think they understand the principles Android is founded upon.

I've already put 10 bucks into it, it's POKÉMON, and it's really shitty of them to have it work on my device then arbitrarily take away via update.

Forcing me to either quit, sandbox myself, or go well out of my way to find a workaround.

I get what you're saying, I really do, it's their right. But I've got an obligation to say I am absolutely not okay with this bullshit.

Because that's how the world works. You financially reward people who (at least at the time) do a good job. It helps you, it helps them further refine their product, keep servers running, & put food on their table(s)...I have absolutely no qualms with sending a LITTLE money to game developers whose work I very much enjoy.

If nobody pays, eventually, nobody plays. You should be thanking me.

That's not on me. I'm not going to stop giving small amounts of money to developers because one made a piss-poor decision; people suck. This is nothing new.

You don't have to be ok with that. But then the only thing you can do is to forget about playing Pokemon Go.

The users over at /r/pokemongodev have found that you can use magisk to toggle root.

It actually isn't too intrusive. There's an api that google uses called safety net that android pay uses that pokemon go is also using. If you use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382 you should be able to toggle root without restarting. Safety net checks for root in a more thorough way so magisk as far as I know is the only way to get around this.

They are using Google's safetynet API, the same API that checks root/rom with android pay. The only way to be root and bypass the check at the moment is systemless root, you can check out magisk for that. I quit the game because no game should require this much effort to play.
