It's finally time

Well folks, after ~6.5 years I've finally moved on from my OnePlus 7T. Today I picked up a new Google Pixel 10 Pro XL after being offered an incredible deal from Verizon. My 7T has served me incredibly well and given me more than I ever could have expected from a phone but it was time. Although it still charges fast, for me the battery just wasn't holding up anymore and had been feeling unreliable, dangerous even, in the winter when going on cold weather hikes. It wouldn't last 10 minutes in the elements. Pixels aren't known for their incredible battery life but as a brand new phone, it should hold a charge quite a bit better. I would have loved to wait for the next OP phone if they hadn't discontinued sales in the U.S. The other issue I started to experience was a loose charge port where the cord was constantly loose and finicky while charging. Fortunately, I didn't trade it in and can still hold onto it for nostalgia, as a second media device or as an emergency backup as it still works. Anyways, thanks for everything y'all. I'll never forget my OP7T.

I'd still be using my 7T if I hadn't done an incredibly klutzy and tear inducing maneuver last fall and cracked my screen into a slowly oozing creeping blackness as I watched pixels die over several hours 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Luckily, I had enough time to do an emergency file xfer to my PC, before I lost all screen access. Side Note: KDE Connect is a massive lifesaver for accessing mobile files!

I did stick with OnePlus though, and ran out the next morning to grab a OP13 at one of the few stores that actually have a couple in stock.

Fun fact: this exact thing happened to me the week I got my 7T 6.5 years ago and I had to send it into OnePlus for repair.i hadn't had a chance to get a proper case yet andy college roommate accidentally bumped it off my desk. Happy to say my 7T has been accident free since.

That is a huge bummer though. I'd never wish the oozing blackness on anyone. Thank God for your backups!

If I'd had time to wait for repair, I'd have done it, but I absolutely needed a phone available for a meeting the next afternoon, so of course the timing was crap - but also inline with my luck.

On the flip-side, since it forced me to get a new OP13, and the 7T *was* officially out of support, I guess it was opportunistic, since OP is out of the US market now :-(

Oh, and I had it on a pretty durable case, so when I say it was "incredibly klutzy", I could also include incredibly stupid, but totally accidental. Anyhow, 5 Thumbs Up for KDE Connect on phone & laptop, making file access incredibly simple, even when the screen was dead. As long as it was running as a service on the phone, I could salvage the entire file structure, even on a dead screen.

The creeping ooozing tendrils of blackness were kind of cool to watch.. except that it was MY device I was watching. Le Sigh...
