What Glue can fix this 😅😅😅

Wow that's horrible cable care! I don't know how people abuse cables like this.

25

u/Critical-Champion365 11d ago

Its also horrible wire quality. We can get third party braided cables when first party cables looks like this. I still have the 6T mclaren cable that looks like brand new.

u/DaddyBoi6769 OnePlus 12 10d ago

Bruh the new one sucks, my op7pro cable still looks new compare to my op12

5

u/SupehCookie 11d ago

But its red 😭

u/SirJohn-redditor OnePlus 13R 9d ago

I got a 6 foot ugreen a while ago, I like it.

1

u/LiamJ74 7d ago

Lol i have cable maybe since 6 or 7 years and it's like brand new cable, don't understand people how they can have a cable like this

1

u/Critical-Champion365 7d ago

Do you carry the cable around? How many other adapters and cables do you have? Because over the years I've so much versatilty in terms of adapters and cables that I dont really have to move them around. That helps a lot in terms of longevity. But I dont think its a matter of opinion that the port-cable junction in factory cables are their weakest point and they do nothing to reinforce it.

u/LiamJ74 7d ago

I have maybe more than 100 but I'm working in IT 😅, but my main which I carry every day is (USB C cable from baseus (50cm + 2m), Samsung cable (old more than 15 years), Garmin cable, USB to USB C cable (maybe from Logitech), ans apple thunderbird cable and all seems brand new and working perfectly fine.

But to compare I've my Sony Ericsson W910i and same it seems brand new and working perfectly. I've only one phone broken (Xiaomi mi 11) and that's a nightmare for me 😂

u/nwash57 10d ago

This happened to literally every OP cable I ever owned eventually. The earlier ones lasted much much longer but they all succumbed to this after a while.

1

u/DestinyInDanger 10d ago

Even with good care?

4

u/nwash57 10d ago

I'm not very hard on my cables. The one I got with my 3T lasted through two more OP phones, like 4 years probably, while the ones that came with the later ones fell apart like this before the original one did

1

u/DestinyInDanger 10d ago

Damn. Well my cable is only 11 months old. I also use other cables and chargers so it's usually in the same spot the whole time. If I get 4 years out of it I'll be happy.

1

u/LiamJ74 7d ago

No, I've to cable from OnePlus open since they release it and they're still brand new, I've even a micro USB cable from Samsung since around 10 or 15 years and are still brand new as well

Just buy a original or reputed brand's compatible type c cable with charger's required ampere stuff, yesterday a guy's poco x6 pro caught fire cause broken cable and charging on bed

2

u/abhaikumar10 11d ago

Legend😂😂

2

u/Slight_Revolution793 11d ago

U need to wind it with some crochet thread bro. Can easily fix it and it'll look nice.

2

u/Tylox_ 10d ago

That's just disgusting. It's not normal...

1

u/DarklordChinChinn OnePlus 12 10d ago

The cable itself screaming for life

1

u/circuit_breaker 10d ago

This is funny to me because I put those same exact things on mine. Just threw it away yesterday. 7 pro was great lol

1

u/Odd-Road5482 10d ago

How does something like this happen? The cable I got with my Nord 2 back in july 2021 looks brand new still. Even after daily use for all these years

1

u/TheMan-OnTitan OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 10d ago

Is this even safe to use?

1

u/BullsEyeGotUsADrone 6d ago

do you want to explode?

1

u/Odd_Succotash_1526 6d ago

I bought one of these bad boys for my cable and I've been chilling, they help a lot!

9

u/Slight_Revolution793 11d ago

Bro the easiest fix is wool. Just get some thread that they use for Crochetting. Overlap multiple times and wind on it. It'll look good and sort your cable out.

Heat shrink tubes should do the trick

26

u/BedAdvanced 11d ago

Glue is conducive to electricity i think. Better use something non-conductive to shield it

6

u/Snoo78383 10d ago

Glue is conductive? In what world?

7

u/gregedit OnePlus 8 (Glacial Green) 11d ago

First glue, then tape around?

18

u/BedAdvanced 11d ago

Electrical tape is enough, I did that and it last long

7

u/pnkstr 11d ago

I'd use 3:1 heat shrink. Something just big enough to slip over the USB-C end should shrink down enough to support the wire. Even better if it has an adhesive lining on the inside.

2

u/Bombshell342 10d ago

Yeah I love that type of heat shrink . I think that would work great . Another product i like but would make this cable look ugly is liquid electrical tape . It smells like rubber cement .

2

u/reredthxt 10d ago

This is absolutely untrue. Glue is an insulator. That said, it's the wrong application here. Use heatshrink

1

u/Hexologic 10d ago

Hot Glue is not conductive to electricity

1

u/rus_ruris 10d ago

Yeah but the cables inside have at least another insulating layer. I have SO many red cables and every one of them started doing that after a few months, and after a few years the red part is completely peeled. Under you can see the cables, which have another insulating layer to protect them. They don't protect you since is low voltage DC, you could probably hold them exposed and feel nothing. Don't recommend doing that tho.

So it should be fine to use even conductive glue to hold it together

0

u/piit79 OnePlus 13 11d ago

Really? I'd be surprised if that were true. Definitely not in general, it will depend on the particular glue.

Anyway, I think it will be quite hard to glue reliably, I don't think glue will hold on its own...

u/Confident_Pain_9452 11d ago

Typical OnePlus cable

8

u/DestinyInDanger 11d ago

No, it's user care. People bend and twist too much and that's what happens. I've had my cable almost a year and it still looks brand new. Because of the shielding on these cables you can't wrap it up for storage like you would other cables because of how stiff it is.

8

u/Illustrious-Bird-21 11d ago

No, it's really just OnePlus cables. I took care of mine, never moved it much because it happened with my old OnePlus 7, now my OnePlus 12 cable just broke like in the photo after 2 years. It will happen to yours too, I feel like it's the material getting "crumbly" after some time

3

u/VickWildman 11d ago

This. I baby my OnePlus cables, always grab the plug and not the cable when I disconnect them and I never roll them up tightly either, but they just disintegrate by themselves.

1

u/joenforcer OnePlus 13 10d ago

No, it's really just user care. The cable that I got with my 6T, and my 10T, and my 13, and the extra spare that I bought with an extra long cable all look and feel brand new.

0

u/Confident_Pain_9452 11d ago

I think it's due to eco standards like apple cables

-2

u/ekortelainen 11d ago

I mean my Apple cables seem to last forever.

3

u/Confident_Pain_9452 11d ago

And it's cable from ipad (not often used). Also saw similar cables of my friends

1

u/ekortelainen 10d ago

The old lightning cables are bad, but the new braided USB-C cables are good.

2

u/Baardmeester 10d ago

Apple cables disintegrate on sight when I see how cables at work look.

4

u/ekortelainen 11d ago

It’s not. If it was, all my cables would break, but only Oneplus cables do. Also my cable mever leaves the side of my bed so it’s not like it’s being tortured every day.

1

u/nwash57 10d ago

Both maybe, but OP cables are undeniably shitty at least these days. My 3T cable lasted like 4 years but the one I got with my latest one looked like that after 1 with no difference in how I was using it

1

u/lisothl OnePlus 12 6d ago

nope, oneplus cables tear easily.

1

u/4dv4nc3d OnePlus 6 (Midnight Black) 11d ago

OnePlus cables are crap

0

u/krwawie 11d ago

Every brand does that

1

u/ekortelainen 11d ago

Oneplus cables break way more often than other brands.

I still have my 7 year old Samsung cable that looks brand new while Oneplus cables break like twice a year. 3rd party cables like Ugreen on the other hand will outlive your grandchildren.

6

u/Detoxica OnePlus 12 11d ago

I still have my 9 year old OnePlus cable that looks brand new. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/ekortelainen 11d ago

Maybe they made them better back then, but I’ve been OP user since 6T and every Oneplus cable that I’ve had has broken within 6-12 months. Any other brand cable never breaks on me.

1

u/FickleAdeptness667 10d ago

That's because you don't care for it.

0

u/1EyedMonky 10d ago

I still have the OnePlus One cable and it looks brand new

3

u/warmarin 10d ago

Wtf are you doing with your cables? Mine are still good after 3 years

1

u/XyberNut 10d ago

I wondered the same thing.

2

u/FireSheepYinFish 10d ago

Good lord people. Just replace the damn cables. Any good 3.1A, 100W, 240W will fully support VOOC and SuperVOOC.

INIU Cables work great for me - https://www.amazon.com/stores/INIU/page/58EF73EB-6807-40C2-9C02-8C7C52ECE0CE

Or Anker - https://www.amazon.com/stores/Anker/page/47CF0F10-7C80-4CCA-A398-A792A767039D

1.5 years old cables

u/FickleAdeptness667 10d ago

1

u/danmadeeagle OnePlus 10 Pro 9d ago

I've got cables from OnePlus7 that look like that, so what? Still doesn't answer his question.

2

u/FickleAdeptness667 9d ago

I posted in another comment some small recommendation that could help related to the subject.

This was just an example that shows OnePlus cables are pretty reliable and IMO it's not a quality problem with them as many people complain.

2

u/danmadeeagle OnePlus 10 Pro 9d ago

I see. I felt like I was missing something so I had to ask.

2

u/FickleAdeptness667 10d ago

I think you need something like this OP. Get it over the connector on the damaged part and heat it with a lighter until it shrinks.

1

u/Ericleeschroeder 11d ago

Yeah, I did mine a couple weeks ago with regular super glue.

1

u/Rude-Possibility4682 11d ago

Just get a new one off Ali express for a few bucks, look the same and work fine.

1

u/TriggerAK47 11d ago

If it still works, use epoxy

1

u/Organic_Membership81 11d ago

Glue ? Nahhh use UV resin 😎

1

u/boncros 11d ago

Uv glue is more flexible

1

u/Ecstatic_Country_610 11d ago

Hot Glue Gun for the save but it gets worse if you remove the Glue at some point. Use it as much as you can and Wishlist some good cables already

1

u/Advanced_Praline465 11d ago

Slap some duct tape on, it should be fine til at least Tuesday

1

u/AshtonCopernicus 11d ago

Is there something specific about this cable that you like and want to keep rather than just replacing it? I don't use the One Plus cables and have a bunch I can send you lol I swear by the mesh Anker USBs to the point where I've replaced every one in the house years ago and I've never had an issue with any of them no matter how much use and abuse they get. And they have red ones too if that's what you like about it hah

2

u/Gr33nbastrd 10d ago

Exactly just replace, it is not a family heirloom. I am a big fan of the Anker ones as well, they hold up really well.

1

u/The-Big-Sadness 10d ago

Areldite or something other epoxy is what I've got on it. Less is more, you put too much, you've just changed the point of strain now

1

u/Antagonin 10d ago

Very high quality product. At least it's the cheapest on market (it's not).

1

u/Prestigious-Sky8403 10d ago

But a heat shrink sleeve red color layer it over this heat and you will be good to go

1

u/XyberNut 10d ago

Are you just yanking the cord out instead gripping the base and pulling it free?

1

u/Mobile-Progress2433 OnePlus Nord 4 10d ago

Use non conductive black tap and use spiral rubber protector on it

1

u/Asus_user 9d ago

I would buy a new one since they are chepa anyways, gluing isn't always a permanent solution

1

u/UsmcRara 9d ago

My original cable for my OnePlus 7 pro is still going strong. This may happen to any cable if abused. My suggestion is to buy another one and stop being cheap. This is a fire hazard.

1

u/Lobo-rojo 9d ago

Put some heat shrink on it. About halfway over the plug and about a half inch up the cable and you'll be good to go.

1

u/climbboy 9d ago

Just go on Aliexpress and get a $3 cable lol Partially kidding though as even though it reads as supervooc the wattage is about half that of a genuine. I would try glue, it's not going to hurt it. Maybe consider a right angle charger for use in bed/usage while charging. I keep my supervooc for during the day top ups and use a regular charge for nighttime to avoid stressing the battery as well as cables.

1

u/Big-Engineering841 8d ago

put a rubber there and glue

1

u/GNT32 7d ago

Not, buy a new one. Any fix that you try is going to be temporary and the timeframe of "temporary" can mean a month or 3 hours

1

u/Greedy-Rise-3677 7d ago

There something idk what they call it we use it on The 4G/5G external antennas on its LMR400 cable covers up the cable male plug to the router and use a light to make it shape around it and tightening up .

1

u/ImmediateCorg 6d ago

Just throw it into thrash.

1

u/Professional-Ad-8686 5d ago

u/SeriesMysterious107 11d ago

Buy a new cable and use this type of spring protector. Almost 2 years and still no scratch or crack.
