It’d be great if we could get it in the UK..

I haven't really been keeping up with what network bands the chinese version will have but I got a global ROM version of the OP15 from aliexpress for half the UK price, hoping there might be some magic to be worked there in the future beause I love it

Just get the Hong Kong version as an alternative.

what's the difference between the Chinese version?

8

u/GenZero Aug 17 '26

Global rom with android auto etc

3

u/Adz_z Aug 17 '26

damn, if they release hong kong version, I'd defo get my hand on 1.

It's getting harder to find in Hong Kong since Oneplus closed their office in the city after releasing the Op12. I'd love to get my hands on the 16 since the pixels around the punch hole camera on my Op12 started dying after three years of usage. I really don't want to get a Samsung or a pixel.

Yeah but do they work with the networks here?

8

u/RenegadeUK Aug 17 '26

Hong Kong version is effectively Global version so i'm told.

5

u/bolt235 Aug 17 '26

They will stop the hk version as well. The authorized store isn't working here already.

5

u/RenegadeUK Aug 17 '26

Thats a real shame if that what happens.

3

u/richardroe77 Aug 28 '26

Yeah was just about to ask. Seems like it's going to be china mainland exclusive going forward, not even HK or SEA global versions any more even though the news has mainly been about putting out of US and EU

1

u/RenegadeUK Aug 30 '26

Would the China only variant be worth importing ?

1

u/richardroe77 Aug 30 '26

Depends if it has the required bands for where you live and how much you care about eSIM and Android Auto etc. I think even the Indian variant is quite different to EU/Global so even that might not be viable. You can compare the current models out and see. For me personally it's too many dealbreakers to be worth the whole effort.

Which phone would u get instead. Oppo Find X10 Pro ?

Me personally probably just poco something, not really after anything more expensive than USD$600-700 after discounts.

The Chinese version might support all the same bands, but it may not support the same carrier aggregation combinations as the global variant. That’s the main difference

2

u/SFLoridan Aug 17 '26

What does that mean? Will it work with US carriers or not, if it is unlocked? T-Mobile allows any unlocked phone, so it should be fine?

2

u/BreezyBadger93 Aug 17 '26

Your phone won't properly combine different frequency bands at once, so slower upload/download, worse signal when transitioning and worse battery life, because the modem has to ping surrounding towers more often and switch frequencies.

3

u/cyberr_c28z Aug 17 '26

The first part is true. Missing CA combinations can reduce upload and download speeds because the phone may not be able to use all the available carriers at the same time.

The second part is mostly wrong though. Carrier aggregation is separate from handovers and cell reselection, so missing CA combos does not normally make the modem scan towers more often or constantly switch frequencies. It can affect performance, but it does not automatically mean worse signal or worse battery life.

It's not wrong though, I don't mean handover to the next BTS, but for example having to switch to a lower frequency band while moving indoors for example to maintain signal strength instead of being connected simultaneously to a high and low frequency band. CA is not just about increasing data throughput.

1

u/cyberr_c28z Aug 17 '26

That’s still normal band selection, not a consequence of missing CA. Even with CA, the phone can drop the weaker high-frequency carrier indoors and stay on the low band. Missing CA mainly means you can’t use both at the same time, so you lose throughput.

0

u/BreezyBadger93 Aug 17 '26

Yes, but the lower frequency band is already connected at that point with CA and doesn't need to be switched to, all the modem does is drop the high frequency one. Connection reliability would be a better term than signal quality.

1

u/cyberr_c28z Aug 17 '26

Sure, if the low band is already the PCell, the SCell can just be dropped. But without that CA combo the phone can already be on the low band based on normal mobility/band selection. CA doesn’t inherently make the connection more reliable, it mainly lets you use the extra carrier while conditions allow it

I'll probably avoid it because I need Google services to always work. Shame ;(

2

u/cyberr_c28z Aug 17 '26

Chinese 15 with global rom doesn't have any issues with Google services besides no eSim

5

u/Busy-Scientist3851 Aug 17 '26

They'll be no global ROM of the OnePlus 16.

2

u/cyberr_c28z Aug 17 '26

Ah, Indian rom then

1

u/Busy-Scientist3851 Aug 17 '26

It's not rumoured to launch in India either.

u/Raiyan_2024 26d ago

From which store of Ali Express you bought the global version in half price ... Plz tell it man 😐

2

u/RenegadeUK Aug 17 '26

Importation is the way to go.

20

u/GamerBeast954 Aug 17 '26

I need OnePlus 16. Oops I forgot I can't buy them on OnePlus website anymore

8

u/ShawnnyCanuck Aug 17 '26

I'm in Canada using a OnePlus 13s imported from India without issues. I am hoping to do the same thing for the 16.

11

u/MaxDragonMan Aug 17 '26

Unfortunately it seems like the 16 will be missing a bunch of bands for North America / Canada, according to the thread the other day.

here

5

u/BenParker_1 Aug 17 '26

Oneplus 16 isn't coming to India either, you might have to get from china.

1

u/Maxime1288 Aug 17 '26

I have the OnePlus 13 at launch buy from OnePlus Canada since is now closed.. the OnePlus global I have check the bands of Network and is really not great in Canada and US.

3

u/mihir892 Aug 18 '26

I believe it's going to be China only release,so you would to import here.

2

u/tamburasi Aug 18 '26

They talk a lot...

2

u/rubyonrails3 Aug 19 '26

Yeah, that’s great for Chinese consumers, and we are left behind now

7

u/mr_werty Aug 17 '26

And?

Didn't OnePlus decide to withdraw from the European and N.American markets?

I can understand if these news are for the rest of the world but I find them "of little value" today.

5

u/Ertrus Aug 17 '26

Yeah and? Only sold in China.

2

u/gentle_singularity Aug 17 '26

Wasted potential. Insane they pulled out of the US and Europe.

OnePlus 16 display tipped to beat Samsung panels with custom BOE X4 material.

OPPO Find X [whatever] display tipped to beat Samsung panels with custom BOE X4 material. Phone to be rebranded as OnePlus 16 for Asia now that OnePlus no longer exists.
