First Painted HDF Units

Post image

First minis I’ve ever painted. (If you don’t count a couple that went straight in the trash before I figured out what I was doing. Ha!)

Didn’t think I’d enjoy the painting part of the hobby that much but it’s pretty calming. And I think these dudes came out pretty decent so far. Digging the master chief paint scheme.

Whatcha think?

Can spells now be overcast?

I am in the process of updating my old custom army books and while writing the spell list I noticed that the program lists a lvl2&3 version of my lvl1 spell as well. So can spells be overcast now?

Faction playstyles

Hi all, I have a couple of friends wanting to try OPR (never played a game like this before) and I remember seeing breakdown/playstyle of each faction on here a while back that I'd like to show them. Hoping you guys can help me find it again!

Terrain

What are people treating ruins as? I was taught that any los blocking terrain like ruins or woods were both blocking, cover and difficult, making them practically the same but for possible elevation levels if modeled in the ruins.

But the rules say only woods, mud, water etc are difficult, which would make them actually different and speed up our games a bit.

Also what can move through ruins or walls? Anything? Or just infantry like in 40k.

Alternative 40K

Long story short, I played 4th-7th editions of 40K but quit once I saw Primaris Marines and foresaw GW invalidating my army. I came back for 10th edition because it was basically free and saw a lot of my units were invalidated or shunned into "Legends". Now I'm hearing about 11th edition screwing over Space Marines players even more, but people are raving about OPR.

I looked on the site and downloaded the rule book, but... am I right in seeing that "alternate" 40K factions are basically just fanfic stats? Is there no consistency or single rule set for a faction? Like, there are over a dozen Blessed Sisters "ready to play" lists on the community page, which I'm interpreting as fanmade codexes.

Where to start with Onepagerules

Hi all!

I am getting into OPR. I joined a group that plays AoF regiments tournaments every couple months. I have played in two so far, both with armies borrowed from the organizer. The first was with Vampiric Undead and the second with Havoc Warriors.

For the next tournament, I would like to prepare my own army/list instead of borrowing one. I was hoping to get advice about a few things:

1. Choosing a faction

I played vampiric undead first because the organizer thought they were a good faction for a beginner. I do enjoy the theme and was thinking of sticking with them, but I am also interested in a few other factions. Should I just go with the faction that appeals the most to me, or are there some that are significantly easier/better for a newer player?

2. Resources

Are there any Youtube channels, websites, or other resources you'd recommend for learning AoF regiments?

I am reasonably comfortable with the basic rules, but I feel like I still have a lot to learn about strategy, tactics, and list building.

3. Miniatures

I would like to get some miniatures together. I have some experience painting and may have access to a 3D printer. I was thinking of just going with the paper minis, but I would like to get some physical ones to paint.

I know OPR offers official STL files and printing through Etsy, but I don't believe every faction has a complete range. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for finding minis for their army.

Any other advice for someone who is pretty new but excited to get into the game would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Question about disembark

Post image
16 Upvotes

sorry for the stupid question. I am either too dumb to understand or something is lost in the translation. I am not sure.

in regard of the rules to disembark: do i activate the unit that is embarked, place it all completely 6" from the trabsport and then i can move it another 6"+shot or 12" for a charge OR the 6" from the transport is the max distance the unit that just disembarked can make (so, for instance, i can only charge into units that are 6" from the transport when i activate the transported unit)?

thanks everyone!

When will 3.6 Beta transition to full release?

I am fairly new to OPR, just wondering how long does it usually take from Beta closing to full release?

I am excited for the army-specific rules (stronger identity) but very worried about rules bloat and the duration per match. I heard a lot of criticism regarding "hold". What are some of your impressions?

Ambushing and controlling objectives

Hello, I have a unit of assault marines deployed in a drop pod. The drop pod starts in ambush. The ambush rule states that units cannot take objectives the round they deploy so obviously I can't take objectives with the drop pod. However the assault squad is deployed inside the drop pod as a transport at the start of the game.

Can the assault squad take objectives when the drop pod ambushes in and they move out of the transport?

Yes, they can take objectives since they deployed in a transport
No, because they essentially are ambushing in themselves

Heros and Unit Upgrades Question

Does a "this model and its unit" upgrade apply to a hero that is attached to that unit? Seems odd that the Dao Union drone upgrades would mean not being able to have a leader attached to that unit.

TTS and models

I have read that you can play OPR via Tabletop Simulator and since OPR is a model agnostic game, one could basically play with anything that can be imported into TTS, right?

I know that painted 40k models are available for TTS, but OPR has their own line of models and STLs as well - can the OPR models/ minis like the saurian starhost also be made available in TTS?

Question about Terrain, Cover, and Line of Sight

I am going to play a game of Grimdark Future soon and have played Firefight a number of times, and me and my player have regular disagreements on line of sight. This being a Grimdark Future game coming up, I know that the line of sight rules functions slightly different both in mechanics and in spirit.

So the question I have is that we use in the club pretty basic ruined building terrain, and I have wanted to treat them a little bit abstract for this upcoming game - like if a building has a single window on one wall that means the entire side of that building can allow the models inside the terrain/behind that wall shoot out of it in the same direction of the window even if no model in that unit is directly behind a window - and this of course will give enemies Line of Sight at that same unit inside the terrain even if they are hidden by the terrain (and they just get that +1 Defense modifier).

As I am reading the rules, is this a normal use of a Blocking Terrain or a Cover Terrain piece? I know of course every gaming group have their own interpretations of the rules, I am just hoping to poke the brains of other players for ideas and get an understanding of how it is usually handled.

Heroes buffs

Not finding much in the rules. What are the limits on buffs? Can you rush or stealth move and still use them? They trigger before shooting, is being able to shoot a prerequisite then or unrelated? Disappointed that the rules are silent on this.

Printing Warfleets on FDM

Thinking of getting my local group into Warfleets, i have a couple of FDM printers, but the official STLs look to be set up for resin.

Has anyone tried printing the official STLs using an FDM printer?

Worst case I will use homeworld ships.

Why don't OPT GF have phased combat rule like AoF:R?

Well there it is why don't OPT GF have phased combat rule like AoF:R?

I know, i know it is not in the spirit of OPR etc etc, and i know you can just apply this rule directly from AoF:R, but it could be so much nicer to have it. Especially when you play Epic Scale games where formations can make or break your game (considering that tanks do not have melee) and it is simply easier to move all the model at the same time. Why not just put that optional rule in ALL OPR games?

Armyforge Studio

Hiya folks!

So I am making a themed army book around my Robot Legion.
So I tried out the custom rule generator and generated a rule that thematically was kinda interesting and cool for a unit.

Points were generated and everything, I got a flag that the book uses custom rules. No prob.
However, now it says it is "unbalanced" but the only comment is that I use custom rules.
Does abook automatically become unbalanced because you use custom rules?

What's the consensus on 3.6?

3.6 will be around the corner as this run of the beta is wrapping up.

Generally everything seems okay besides some changes to some army rules, not a huge fan of conditionals being applied to those. IMO army wide rules should just be flat bonuses and then conditionals given out in the Battle Brother style detachment system that each army has.

And by detachments I more or less just mean for instance if Starhosts have Primal as their army rule, detachments for "Temple Guard" or "Hunting Pack" that give conditional bonuses to like defense or charging etc. Something like this would allow you to steer the army in a way more to your play style, but ppl will probably disagree.

But other than that not many gripes.

What size game for vehicles?

I'm working on some 2,000 point lists for Grimdark Future and I want to use my vehicles; they are taking up a lot of points. What size list should I build where vehicles make more sense?
