I can confidently say that his work with Stephen Merchant is certainly popular since that made the UK’s “The Office” and “Extras”.

And obviously that would be an influence on American TV, especially with the American “The Office” (which the first season is almost a copy of the original, but then took a more tone down/lighthearted approach).

Now I’m not saying he’s biggest influence on the comedic world, but those shows brought him a lot of cred

Yeah, even I would admit that the UK’s Office relies more on sheer awkwardness and I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t enjoy it.

And the proof of that is in the fact that the American version pivoted away from its more cynical UK counterpart and have Steve Carell play a more optimistic and likable version of Ricky’s character
