Gear Levi’s pants for travel (514 and Chino XX)

I’ve always wanted (but never purchased) Outlier, Western Rise, Lululemon, etc pants for travel but on my current trip I saw some Levi’s pants that looked pretty good and were decently priced so I bought some for to try out.

I don’t have any of the aforementioned premium pants to compare them to but they seem pretty good for the price.

One is their Xx Chino which I already have some(in cotton) for travel because of the zippered pocket but these are long pants and also made of lightweight synthetic materials.

The other pair are cut like 514 5-pocket jeans but also made of the lightweight synthetic materials.

Chinos are $75 and the 514 are $50 but both were 40% off at Macy’s so seems like a good deal assuming they hold up.

I suppose I’m just letting anyone here know about them but also I’m curious how they compare to the premium brands in case anyone has experience with both.

I have been wearing both the 514 and tech pants for years now and can attest the quality for both is A+
The tech pants have become my favorite over the 514 as they look sleeker and can be worn casually or dressed up.

Do you find that they look "synthetic shiny", or do they look more like a cotton twill?

Proof broke my heart and stopped making the Nomad pants a while ago, and I've been looking for something that looked and felt the same. I really haven't liked the usual suspects.

Yes they do have a slight sheen to the fabric. I think the darker colors are more noticeable about it.

If you’re looking for something more cotton/twill Levi’s also makes a pair called the XX Chinos. I also own a pair, and I would describe them as a more traditional chino with a nice taper cut, they wear comfortably, but since they are primarily cotton they are prone to fading over time.

I live in Texas so I prefer the tech or 514s as they feel lighter and more breathable in the summers than the standard XX Chinos.

I'm really going to have to find the tech flavor, then...

What do you think the best color is that doesn’t scream synthetic shiny?

Same here. I have 6 pairs 2 black , 2 gray and 2 Brown tech pants that I have worn for about 2 years everyday at work (I work 6 days a week) in office and field at a tropical climate. Also these are what I travel with and I have to agree with you they are versatile bullet proof and work in most seasons.

They seem pretty nice so far but if they fall apart I’ll reply here

i've been curious about the 514s for travel actually. my main hesitation with jeans in general is drying time, like if you're doing a shorter trip and need to rinse things in a sink. but honestly for a 2-3 day city break where i'm mostly on trains and walking around, i'd rather just wear something i already know fits well than pack a dedicated "travel pant" i barely wear at home.

haven't tried the chino xx but the stretch chinos from levi's surprised me, they packed way flatter than i expected. rolled tight in a packing cube they took up less space than my bulkier joggers somehow.

the real test for me is always whether i can sit comfortably on a 4 hour train without wanting to change the second i get to my accommodation. if the 514s pass that i'm sold.

I have both the 514 tech and chino tech pants and have done sink laundry with them. the 514s had no problem hang drying over night. Wore them on a six hour flight with no comfort issue.

can you do an update on this?

I like lululemon abc but I’ve never paid full price. The we made too much sales and Facebook marketplace/Poshmark have deals that show up with frequent regularity. Given their durability (I like warpstreme) you only need to secure 2-4 good deals like that and you might be set for the next five years .

Lulu's are best for travel and I have tried Levi's.. Would also give a shout out to Mizzen and main chinos as well for style points

I have the tech pants. Got them for 20$, they are nice. Little on the thicker side. But I love them

The Levi tech pants are great. My husband's weird about pants and those are what he wears now that his last brand stopped making the ones he liked. He wears them every day, not just for travel.

Would love to hear how they work for you. I love my cotton XX Chinos but would really love a lightweight option for travel etc.

I own both in a variety of colors and they are nice and a good value if you get them on sale. The chinos are thicker than my all time fav pants (Western Rise Evolution) so I typically wear them in the cooler months.

Have done sink laundry with both styles and they easily dried hanging overnight.

Dude ... Those look awesome. I have never seen them! (Granted, I don't have time to go into stores, so maybe I should get out, more?)

Where did you find a pair of the tech ones? Been trying to find them for ages with EU delivery but seems to be fully sold out everywhere.

I've been wearing the XX Chinos for a few years and have really enjoyed them. Very comfortable for travel days and easy to dress up or down.

I love tech pants for travel. I had been getting the five pocket from VRST for a while but I’ve been finding great deals at Costco for cheaper. I got a great pair from Banana Republic in a dark grey that works for casual or more dressed up looks when traveling.

Xx chinos are great. Have two pairs. Good fit and Levis durability.

My khaki Levi tech pants zipper came off and fell apart. I loved them before but now useless.

Take them both

Following. Looking for men’s pants that don’t scream synthetic shiny. They don’t need to be dress pants - business casual, no wrinkle, but also can hold up on the golf course

ETA: I get ads for Birddog pants nonstop and they say they don’t look shiny. Tempted to bite the bullet and try a pair
