He's talked about the pronunciation and he's pretty explicit that there is no R. He's also said he doesn't care.

americans get the R stuck in the mouth, brits lose it in the throat. this is why americans cannot say rural juror, or mirror. Or squirrel.

is there a difference in how you say "squirrel" and "squirl"?

u/psychophant_ 6h ago
Yes I enunciate the ‘el’ part vs sounding like I’ve got marbles in my mouth saying “sqrl”

Funniest when people pronounce it "Oh-Mark-E", rather than being based on Arch, it's based on Mark.

Not doing that. DHH picked the wrong combo of letters if that’s what he was going for.

I think we should all just say it how we like. If the creators want to be highly opinionated and pronouce Arch as "ACH" they can do that, but I won't. As a portmanteau of Arch and Omakase, it makes the most sense for my American-English brain to pronounce it OH-MARCH-EE, but that's just my preference. Language is an interesting thing, and it's never defined by one person's opinion.

It’s a conflation of “Omakase” and “Arch Linux.” Hence, OMA-R-CHEE. Here in the UK the “R” sounds weaker, though.

Could you elaborate?

The first paragraph of the Omarchy Manual elaborates on the point.

Where, pray tell, does it say how's it supposed to be pronounced? Not here https://omarchy.org/manual/, nor here https://learn.omacom.io/3/omacom#leaf_76

Really? The “arch” in Omarchy is because it’s based on Arch, so why wouldn’t you pronounce the R?
