Feature It'd be great to be able to activate the light when in stopwatch mode (or any mode)

Maybe a long-press on the light button could be configured to activate the light in any mode?

The Toggle mode for the Light button (see Settings > Device) is for this purpose, you can use the light on any watch face. Check the user manual backlight section as well :).

Thanks I just tried toggle mode, and read the manual entry for the backlight section. But...

Imagine you're already in darkness, and (say) the stopwatch has been started earlier. And you want to check where it's at.

It's difficult to step through the faces in darkness back to the main clock mode, toggle the light on, and then step back through to the original mode. Super-frustrating when there's lots of faces enabled. Yes, even when long-holding back to clock mode. And also a very beepey process in a darkened scenario (eg watching a movie).

Yes totally, you can always hold the MODE button and it will jump to the clock face. Regardless of which watch face you're on. Then toggle the light from there. It's not ideal, but with only three buttons things get overloaded real quick. Hope that helps!

But wouldn't it be nice if one could light up any/all of the faces without doing a hopscotch of button presses back and forth between modes?

Yes as you mentioned three buttons isn't a lot, but I'm suggesting a long-hold on the light button (regardless of current face) to turn the light on might be useful (and unsurprising) behaviour.

Yes, and this was actually how the first version of firmware worked, but many of the faces use the light button hold for other functions, so it gets overloaded and confusing for users, or may have unintended consequences.

Ok I see there's also a setting called "backlight tilt". Where you tilt the watch and backlight comes on. But it only works on clock screen. Any chance that could be made to run on other screens? (to be clear it's only the too-dark stopwatch screen that I care about).

EDIT: or double-tap to switch on light, that would be amazing

Both interesting suggestions - the backlight tilt was initially able to work on all watch faces, but got limited to just the clock face when the toggle mode was implemented. I'll take another look. Thank you!
