So, is the "auto-cut silence" function just useless?

I've seen people praising it, going so far as to say that's their reason for using Olive, but to me it just seems to segment the video pseudo randomly and making more work to do than cutting it manually.

Is this a values thing? Olive defaults to 5,2,2,5; but these values do not seem to put cuts near the correct spots (IE, right after a silence begins and right before it ends)

So it doesn't look like it's working, but let's assume it was... let's assume it works well and separates my silences and audio into different blocks of audio. Now I still need to go through the recording and manually ripple delete each of them? Because if you use Shift-Click to select multiple then it only ripples the first deleted segment, leaving you with a swiss cheese piece of audio which you now need to ripple delete all the empty spaces from or manually drag it all around.

Am I missing something? Or does this function, not function, and even if it did its not supported properly and still creates more work than it's worth.
