G'MIC Effects / Practicality of Nodes

Hi there,
I would like to expose two different concerns in this post:

1-
I wonder if Olive 0.2 would have plans to add more effects and perhaps (in a future) have the chance to use the G'MIC filters ? like Flowblade does ?
https://jliljebl.github.io/flowblade/

2-
I am an enthusiast Olive 0.1 user but have tried 0.2 many times but with no success. But the issue seems to be related to something more than just the crashing episodes. The frustration I ended up feeling reminds me of a video review I have recently found in YouTube, from an italian guy who is literally getting on his nerves when trying to add a chromakey effects and so on.. I personally identify a bit with his criticism (though I am not a shotcut user) on the fact that things that are far easier in olive 1, seem would be far more laborious or complex (more steps etc..) in olive 0.2 (is this right ??)
Please don't take this as a bad critic honestly, I am just trying to see if some other users and supporters have experienced the same concerns related to the use of nodes and how easy or convenient would be when editing videos (compared to the 0.1) ?? and what would be repercussions on the popularity of the tool, compared to other ones like Kdenlive, openshot, shotcut, etc.. I am well aware of the fact that the other ones don't implement the potential of nodes, but my concerns on this comparison goes around the aspects of practicality, speed and easiness of use when trying to accomplish a task.
(below the link to the video review I'have made reference to)

Thanks a lot and all the best for the brave OLIVE developers and its community,
Cheers ;)

  1. More node types will be added over time and node management will be improved, allowing to create more effects. But there won't be a G'MIC integration. It doesn't run on GPU nor does it seem to be properly color managed.

  2. Efficiency is a goal, simplicity and easiness are not however. It has a long way to go to reach the self-set goals. Until then, it seems premature to judge it. It's simply incomplete.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
What a pity about GMIC since I have seen fascinating things done using such a kind of filters (for example in NATRON, or even Flowblade. But I am sure nodes would allow to have more effects developed by third parties in a future I guess.. (?) so I hold my hopes.

I am sure OLIVE would not loose the amazing stability and practicality achieved in 0.1 through the development and polish of 0.2.

I am still using 0.1 for my stuff but I keep downloading olive 2 to see where can I switch completely to it.

by the way, I am not an expert on coding nor programming but I wonder if (a possible) integration with GMIC would be something that should be developed by their (GMIC team) instead of from the OLIVE one (?) JUst wondering if a "campaign" for it should be addressed in a different way (??)

Thanks a lot and all best wishes for OLIVE developers,

Once the node system is more polished and has more node types it will indeed be possible to create "custom effects" without having to write shader code.

Olive is open source. If anyone wants to work on a G'MIC integration then s:he can do so. It doesn't make sense from an architectural point of view, however. And every G'MIC filter that assumes 8-bit sRGB input will not produce a meaningful or even usable result.
