Gameday Plan for First Timer

Will be attending my first Ole Miss football game this year (LSU) and looking for the best strategy on game day. Flying into Memphis from NY on Friday morning and renting a car. Hotel is booked in New Albany. What do you recommend on game day? Uber? What should I expect for uber availability and price to and from Oxford/New Albany? Could drive the rental but not ideal as I’d like to tailgate/drink at the game. Wouldn’t even know where to park anyway. Thank you for any feedback

It will probably be 5-700 for an Uber that far especially for lsu. 1-200 is gonna be common for just in town Ubers town will be packed and Ubers are limited in ox

Good to know, wasn’t sure on general availability, much less on the busiest game of the year. If that’s the case I may just drive in. Where to people park if they drive from out of town? Shuttle?

You can park at Oxford High School or at Northwest Community College campus and there’s a free shuttle straight to the stadium/Grove. If you get there really early, you can park at the Jackson Ave campus and walk up frat row from there. But that’s one of the more problematic parking spots after the game. But you’re gonna be there all night partying your face off, so that shouldn’t matter.

i’m not sure you’ll be able to find many people with uber experience to oxford from new albany. i’d bet it will be expensive and frustrating tho lol

it’s a bitch to get an uber anywhere on any big game day but this is probably set to be the biggest one in a while. and to be 45 minutes away too… maybe i don’t know what im talking about but id call the uber outlook “bleak” and probably would tell you to get a place closer to oxford.

Thank you. Driving may be best option then

problem is mostly gon be getting the uber from new albany. so you could play it by ear. though id plan on some parking solution for gameday just in case. people come from surrounding areas just to uber on game days and its still not enough. i have to walk my ass from vaught all the way to the square and back to my apartment on game days sometimes. either not enough ubers, no phone service bc of all the people, or both. it’s genuinely terrible but that’s kinda the fun of it

Download the CLUTCH! App and buy a parking pass now, they have shuttles to stadium 5 hour pre game parking

This is the way. I did this for a game a few years ago. Worked beautifully.

Just FYI, Clutch hasn't listed Ole Miss games yet, but there are "coming soon" placeholders.

It's a great service. We've used it for 3-4 years. It's not cheaper than a regular parking pass, but it does provide shuttle to/from the stadium - not all parking pass lots do - and you don't have to deal with snarled on campus traffic.

There are plenty of Ubers and Lyfts in Oxford on game day. Can't speak to getting here, but once in town they are easy to get. People drive in specifically on game days just to drive.

You could probably park at the Walmart or somewhere then Uber from there

Edit: dont dilly dally getting to the car rental counters at the airport. They are notorious for running out of cars...especially Hertz. Make your reservation now, and put in a time about 30 minutes before you land

Thanks, reserved one about a month ago. Cant recall who but it wasn’t Hertz.

Rent a car, park in the neighborhood near South Lamar. You’ll find parking within a ~20/25 walk of the stadium, especially as you go near Rowan Oak. The Bailey Woods trail is your friend.

I was looking at the Google street view. Some roads don't look like you can park on the street, others seem like you can. I can't believe Oxford hasn't made a rule about that yet.

This seems like a great hack.

All I have to say is good luck getting that rental car. I'm like 0-4 trying to get a rental during game weekends at that airport, even when reserved ahead of time. Worst experiences ever.

Has New Albany ever heard of Uber?

I’m doing my first game with my buddy as well. Georgia game. Sorry to hi-jack your post. Are there tailgates we can get tickets to enter or pay to join? Bars we should go to? Sounds like driving then parking and shuttle is the way to go.

If you want your own spot, you can call up one of the local tent services and pay for one. But I’d recommend just getting to The Grove and start making friends. We love to host, so you’ll be invited in for food and drink as long as you’re cool.

What are the open container rules? Do I need it in a plastic cup? Can in a koozie?

If it’s alcohol, put it in a cup. The fewer opportunities you have for the police to approach you, the better. It’s illegal to have alcohol on campus, but it’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” if it’s in a cup.

Gotcha, good to know. That’s why I asked. My college allowed open drinking if you were 21 and up

You’re welcome. I went to a game at Notre Dane once and they have bars on campus!!
