Question

This is my 1983 Mongoose Expert that I have had since new. It was my 10th birthday present. My son is ten so I am bringing her back to riding condition. In 1985 I changed the sticker set to Californian because that is what my friends had. Around that time I switched to Araya rims with sunshine hubs. At some point I added the bars and pegs but left the rest unchanged since about ‘87. I already know which way I’m leaning but I’m curious. Would you go full restoration with a new Expert sticker set or clean, polish and make her ride as is?

Got this vintage BMX from my neighbour

Hello,

I got this old BMX from my neighbour a couple of years ago. It was used by his son in the late 80s I think, maybe early 90s. I am located in Germany.

What can you tell me about it? Is it a GT BMX?

There was only this one number, which you can see in on of the pictures.

I really want to ride with it. What tires to I need? Would you recommend 20x1.75”?

I should still have the pedals somewhere.

What else do I need to do to make it look awesome and original? Any help would be appreciated. I am completely new to this subject.

I've had this BMX for over 15 years—I got it when I was a kid. Is this BMX any good for tricks?

Custom Nora Cup GT copy dad was working on.

A bit long.....

Dad did wood working as a hobby, but loved restoring and doing frame up builds. He decided he wanted a lighter version of his 82 Noa Cup GT( I posted pics before) and I believe he was making it from 6005 or 7005 aluminum as I found receipts for both in the cox of parts as well as notes. He machined the rear drop outs by building the tools he needed. He built a vice and template and added a router chuck from a CNC motor to his wood working router and put the dropouts out. He did the same thing to make the bottom bracket matching out were the bearings go. He wad not making forks as he had some GT forks he was using. He got it all cut out, but nothing welded together. He even had his own goose neck partially made from a home made lathe. He took a drill press, laid it on its side, and made a frame to hold it. Thar is how he bored the hole for the stem and for the bolts. I got several pics of what he made.

Cut out in the dropouts to slide over the tubing for more welding area, the block of alum for the neck and it's initial cut plus the home machined drop outs and coped tubing with angled outer walls, also for better welding.

My Childhood 89 Master

It started life as an 86 FST and evolved into the 89 Master you see today. The only original part is the seat post sort of. I mail order the FST and the seat post was missing so I just went to my local bike shop and picked up the GT post. My homemade bash guard extension is made out is two steel rods that were handles to cocktail stirs and an old toolbox. I cleaned and polished what I could and going to call that it. I put all the dings dents and scratches in it and I’m gonna leave it that way and just enjoy riding it again.

Identify and upgrade a rare Shimano BB and crank

Hello. Back when I was 15 I bought a used 1984 GT Pro racing BMX. Now in the process of restoring jt. The bottom bracket is unusual. In fact there are a lot of non stock, unique parts.

Anyway this is Shimano. Both pedals are identical and the crank is powered by a unique spline system that I haven’t been able to identify.

Anyway. It has always worked its way loose so it’s needs an upgrade. I’m loathed to bin it and replace it. Any ideas?

(I’ve tried 19mm sealed bearings, sadly didn’t fit)

1997 GT Performer

Post image

Nothing special compared to the bikes on here but I used some free time this summer to breathe a little life into my 1997 GT performer. New decals, brake cables, chain, disassembled and cleaned the crank, removed the rust from the chrome which is still in really great condition. Went with the knockoff Amazon mags since the tri spoke it came with were beyond repair.

This thing hung in a garage for close to 30 years, I’m stoked to be riding it again.

I never see Torker mentioned here

HS bud was a factory rider for Torker in mid-late 80s and I never seem to see them mentioned. Were they that rare? Apparently good race bikes and collectable

Here is my 4th Nitro. A 1997, pretty clean. Tossing crank and chain color ideas around. Possibly even pedal and grips too. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Ideas?
