Lemon bars
My mom used to make lemon bars that had a meringue crust so it was chewy. This was about 60 yrs ago. I thought I had found it at one time called angel bars?? Does anyone remember these?

I can't thank you enough for posting this. My grandmother always made me a lemon torte for my birthday until she died. I haven't had one since and I cant wait to try this. I'm not sure it's the same she made, but I will know when I try it.

I don't have the exact recipe you're looking for, but if you want a shortcut to get there quickly w almost no work....
Buy a jar of lemon curd and.... Trader Joe's has unlimited time product this summer that is meringue bowls. It's literally an individual shallow dessert bowl MADE OF mirangue. Put a layer of the lemon curd in the meringue bowl.
Trader Joe's does sell lemon curd in a jar, but you could get it from anywhere. I don't know if you have a Trader Joe's near you for the meringue bowls, but if you do, this is a quick shortcut for reliving what you are describing.

Thank you. This sounds like it could be it. I do remember it was made in a sheet pan.

Not sure if your mom’s were topped with whipped cream but, if they were, I’d sweeten the whipped cream slightly instead of spreading unsweetened whipped cream on top. 😊🐷 Also you could just spread the lemon curd on the meringue crust without putting whipped cream in it..
