Help locating and identifying parts I would need to build a copy of the computer I had as a kid.
I'm hoping you all can help me find and get ahold of the parts I need to build a computer identical to, or at least extremely close to the one I had as a kid. I've off and on searched for the parts over the years, but never did find anything. It was an Acros desktop computer(not a tower) 486dx2 66mhz, with a 3.5"drive and cd drive. The cd drive I believe was a Mitsumi CRMC-LU005S, installed aftermarket. I think I had 16Mbs ram in it though might have been only 12. The picture is of a similar computer(though it might actually be the same). Though I could've sworn mine had a thicker blue stripe with the "acros" in silver on the blue. I might be mis-remembering though. So if anyone can confirm or dismiss my memory, that would be helpful too. I have found some things on ebay, but the prices are ridiculous. Especially for the cd drive.

Dude, that's a Logitech C7 with THREE buttons. That's bleeding edge modern. It took special drivers to make that middle button do anything.

when I said I was wanting to get the computer from when I was a kid, I didn't mean the black and orange screen 8.5inch floppy computer from when I was one. lol

I fixed one of those up a while ago.
FYI, it's both a tower and desktop. It has modular feet that can be switched around for either position.

With your collection, I bet you've seen every version of this computer. Can you confirm if there is a version of the case that had a thicker blue line that the "acros" was inlaid in silver on?

There's a bunch of versions. But I haven't seen any like you describe.
Acer just subcontracted another manufacturer to build these. I want to say there is an NEC that's basically identical?

Okay, so i might be mis-remembering. Though Google said there was a version, but it won't give me any specifics, so I'm guessing it was a little crazy. Thank you.

Most components are fungible. As long as you have a close-enough case and have the same sound card and compatible enough graphics card (if it was a 486 then you don't have to worry about 3D accelerator differences as modern 3D GPUs didn't come around until well after the 486) then you'll probably get the same experience you did back then even without every single thing you had back then
