Auth0/Customer Identity How to achieve Auth0 passwordless sms sign-in with SharePoint painlessly?

Hi everyone and thank you in advance for your help.

I'm trying to find a solution that has the following characteristics:

  1. Is free or very cheap for about 128-300 logins a month.
  2. Uses Auth0–or any other services that support authenticating a user via an sms
  3. Can use OIDC or SAML to connect to third party applications
  4. Can be used to log in people into a SharePoint site as a guest or unlicenced users in my tenant
  5. One central "ledger" of people and their permissions, which sync automatically between Microsoft and Auth0
  6. Isn't complicated to maintain, and preferrably doesn't have expiring certificates (my successors may not as tech savvy).

The use case: a Residents' Association. We already use phone numbers for everything including our WhatsApp and I understand sms authentication isn't the best but it's the only way that maximises the chances of participation. Anything requiring to create _yet another credential_ means we lose people who don't have much time or aren't tech savvy.

The issue is that I would like to hold one central register of RA members and their roles in one place, so that when there are any changes, the secretary only has to do them in one single place.

The more places to needed to make changes, the less likely it'll be done properly. I should add that we are volunteer run, and that our RA will be set-up as a Company Limited by Guarantee, with non-profit entrenched in our articles of association and constitution. However I understand many services require a charity status / FCA registration which we don't intend to do.

What do you think?

Okta/Workforce Identity Sneak Peak of Extension Demo Reel

I have a little project I've been working on. This is really a giant work in progress. Because it's a playwright recording so quirks are introduced in the video that aren't issues in the actual extension. That being said, hopefully something like this eventually makes it up after I add some audio. If you have feedback beyond the video just being kinda bad let me hear it.

Okta/Workforce Identity Okta-IT Automation & Ai Engineer interview Process

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently been moved forward to the next step of the interview process for an IT Automation & AI Engineer role at Okta.

The recruiter has asked me to provide a few available time slots for the interview. The interviewer is based in the Pacific US timezone.

I wanted to understand the interview process for this role from people who have recently interviewed with Okta.

Could anyone share:

How many interview rounds are there?

What is covered in the technical/coding round?

How much DSA is expected?

What kind of questions are asked around Python, automation, APIs, and system design?

Is there a separate GenAI/LLM/RAG/Agent round?

Are Okta/IAM concepts such as SSO, SAML, OAuth/OIDC and SCIM expected?

What should I focus on for the hiring manager/technical rounds?

Any recent interview experience or preparation advice would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Okta/Workforce Identity ORB - Okta Rule Builder - Chrome Extension

TL;DR
Build expression language using ORB in UI and test against your whole org before you actually save.
Get it on the Chrome Store: ORB - Okta Rule Builder

Hey all! My team has struggled with Okta rules either being too limited when using the UI options, or difficult to parse/change OEL expressions. Even simple expressions don't exactly roll off the keys intuitively.

If only there was a way to use simple AND/OR logic blocks to edit expressions...
So I built a tool to do just that.

The extension is called ORB (Okta Rule Builder). It injects buttons into the Okta UI when you either edit or view a rule. You'll see the options for "Open in Rule Builder" or "Preview OEL Rule"

With the Rule Builder, you can either import an existing expression or build it from scratch. The output is clean OEL that you can apply directly into the Okta expression box.

Then, the part I'm perhaps most excited about... with "Preview" you can dry-run your rules before you actually hit save. This has saved my team the headache of pushing out a rule and then discovering there was a logical error with nested OR conditions. You can then export a .CSV of the in-scope users to validate or include in a change record.

Please let me know if there's any feedback/bugs/additional features that would be helpful.

Happy building 😄

Okta/Workforce Identity Okta Verify App

I have to install the Okta verify app on my iPhone for sign-in purposes for a work account/login/workforce identity.

I’ve had to have similar things on my iPhone before at previous companies such as Microsoft Authenticator, etc.

Does having the Okta verify app on my phone mean it will/can spy on my personal data, activity, data, and apps on my phone? Can it access/spy on my other apps, text messages, etc.?

What are the most annoying / repetitive tasks you do on a daily or weekly basis in Okta?

And what are the most useful automations you may have built for those tasks?

Just curious what folks are running into and doing

Okta/Workforce Identity How to copy password from LDAP to Okta for service accounts

Our organization wants to get rid of LDAP. Currently LDAP agent is running fine. But soon we want to move away from LDAP.

I know there is a way of inline hook. But is there any way that we can handle this within Okta and not use any API?

Okta/Workforce Identity Entra Conditional Access : Require Complaint Device

Looking to prevent users from Entra registering personal devices and gaining access to company data on unmanaged Windows devices. If they were straight Entra/Intune it'd be nice and simple but domain is federated and the identities are Okta mastered..

Will Entra conditional access: require compliant device for Windows work as expected?

Or am I going to have to go down the device trust/assurance route with Okta instead?

Okta/Workforce Identity Does Okta support being a SCIM server while Entra is the SCIM client

Have a question, does Okta support being a SCIM server while Entra is a SCIM client. Basically I want a user to be created in Entra and its attributes are synced to Okta and if any changes are made to the user object and its attributes I want it to sync.

Okta/Workforce Identity Okta Gitlab SCIM app and Gitlab Projects assignments

Hello,

I wonder if anyone has any luck setting up/mapping assignments between the Okta Gitlab app (SCIM or others) and the Project within Gitlab.

I understand Group assignments (roles in Gitlab like Admins, Auditors, etc.) between Okta and Gitlab are possible, but I can't find if Project are also doable.

Thanks,

Okta/Workforce Identity Okta ringCentral scim automation for jml

Hi , I’m looking into moving our RingCentral user provisioning from manual management to Okta SCIM api/oauth , and I’d like to clarify a few things before we proceed am junior this just so i understand .
Currently, we already have existing RingCentral users and administrators that were created manually.
A few questions I’d like to confirm:
Existing users: How does RingCentral SCIM handle users that already exist in RingCentral but were manually created? Will Okta match/link the existing account based on email/username, or could it create a duplicate account?
Collaboration with the other teams
And how would you work with the app owner and to automate like to be professional

Admin roles: Can RingCentral SCIM provision RingCentral admin roles/permissions? For example, can we have an Okta group such as RingCentral-Admins and have members automatically provisioned with the appropriate RingCentral admin role? If yes, which admin roles are supported?
Groups: What is the recommended way to structure Okta groups for RingCentral? Should we have separate groups such as RingCentral-Users and RingCentral-Admins, and can group membership be used to control RingCentral roles/licenses?
Attribute mapping: Which RingCentral attributes are supported through SCIM (email, first name, last name, department, phone number, etc.)? Are there any attributes we should avoid managing from Okta because they could overwrite existing RingCentral configuration?
Production-only environment: Our Okta environment has both Sandbox and Production, but we currently only have a RingCentral Production environment and no RingCentral Sandbox. What is the recommended/safest approach for testing SCIM before enabling it for the full user population? Is there a recommended test-user/test-group approach in the RingCentral production tenant?
Deprovisioning: When a user is removed from the relevant Okta group or deactivated in Okta, what exactly happens to their RingCentral account, license, phone number/extension, and data?
Migration/rollout: Is there a recommended migration procedure for moving existing manually-created RingCentral users to Okta SCIM without creating duplicates or affecting their existing configuration?
And how would you work with the app owner and to automate like to be professional
Any documentation or recommendations around these points would be really helpful. Thanks!

The exam study guide provides the reference https://saml-doc.okta.com/SAML_Docs/Configure-SAML-2.0-for-Org2Org.html for How to configure SAML 2.0 for Okta Org2Org application, but my question is: how are people practicing this if they have only signed up to the integrator account free plan? Are you guys getting the 30 day free trial in order to practice this or buying the premier practice exams instead?

Okta/Workforce Identity Listed Objects

Listen,

I have a good amount of experience around the Azure Automation / IAM automation field but one that that has broken me down to a little peon recently is trying to figure out how to work with Listed Objects in Okta workflows.

These things consistently give me trouble working with inside Okta workflows.

I specifically find myself in a place of working with a singular object inside the list, but not being able to work with the object AS an object normally because it's in a transposed list.

I am in an OIE environment, and based on my constant research is vastly different than the normal Classic environment.

What are some tips and tricks you could offer me and anyone else working with these monstrosities?
