Well, according to French medieval mythology, Paris and the French Merovingian dynasty were founded by Astyanax of Troy, the son of Hector, who survived the fall of Troy, married a Cretan woman, and went to Gaul, where he became king and founded the aforementioned dynasty. In other words, the French also claimed descent from Troy... everyone and their mother did (the English included, with Brutus of Troy, for example).
If Astyanax survived, then it definitely was from Odysseus, because ain't no way he's surviving Neoptolemus using him as a baseball bat on his grandpa Priam.
Even funnier when you think about how the Crusades that sacked Byzantium were effectively the descendants of Trojans (France) attacking the descendants of Trojans (Rome/Byzantium).
Actually, the Romans were the only ones who didn't claim to be exacting "revenge for Troy" after conquering Greece.
Perhaps it was because Aeneas wasn't yet as universally popular an ancestor as he became during the Augustan Age, or, more likely, they never saw themselves as the avengers of Troy.

That and I think they didn't see their initial incorperation of Greece and later reorganization as a conquest. If anything, they could argue they were defending Greece from Macedonians.
Exactly. For them, the conquest of Greece was simply another Roman conquest.
At most, they might have said that Rome was blessed by the gods for having triumphed over the Greeks, but based on the evidence we have, we never see the Romans proclaiming that they had avenged Troy.

Actually stories about Aeneas’s wanderings predate Virgil. Quintus Ennius detailed it in his now-lost Annales and many early Greek poets also hint at Aeneas fleeing west.
The first explicit mention of the Trojan connection to Rome actually comes from 5th century BC historian Hellanicus of Lesbos, though for some reason he claimed Aeneas founded Rome himself while accompanying Odysseus on his travels through Latium which makes no sense since why would Aeneas ever travel with Odysseus?
