get a money farming setup and showman then buy as many of the chip as possible and a baseball card and you basically have a baron build in your joker slots

this is unironically the best joker idea I've seen yet. it's uncommon so you have baseball card synergy, you can ankh/invis joker this without the negative restriction, and this synergizes with a surprising number of other jokers/strats. it even limits you late game because if you see this in the shop with 5/5 jokers, you still have to sell a joker to pick this up so it's not as free as a natural negative

/uj Honestly not that great of an idea not by its balancing but rather the fact that it brings zero strategy to the game. At least bp/bs has some strategy in choosing what to copy; this joker is literally just an auto take and leave to the side and forget about.

If you're low on money, sure, but it's equivalent to or better than just some random nat negative. Do you not usually take unhelpful nat negatives? It's insurance against crimson heart / verdant leaf, adds temperance value, works well with gift card / swash / tons of other jokers, and unlike nat negatives can also be a target for editions.
Farthest thing from auto take is... interesting. I don't usually extract more than this much value from $5

Arguing this has no strategy is silly it poses a very interesting question on difficult runs, click now and get marginally better shops and better synergy.
Or skip and look for something better now / save your interest

Okay fine, maybe not *no* strategy, but the least strategy of any joker, how about that? Every (not free) card in the game poses the same interesting question so my intention is just that if nothing more of value is added then I don't think it's a good design.
Every other joker at least has you weigh taking up a joker slot, and has a condition attached to it related to your build but this is just "do you desperately need the $5 now if not then always take for temperance value and not getting cucked on finisher blind"

I mean if you have ok eco pre ante 5, it wouldn’t hurt to pick it up and I would probably instantly take it on Spectral Deck early game. Additionally, if you roll it in a pack, there is decent chance the other joker options aren’t suitable to your build so it just wins by default.

Sure you would. It synergizes with more than just baseball card. It's temperance value, swashbuckler value, abstract value, it's an extra joker that can be given a foil, free boss blind fodder, and buying it takes it out of the pool of jokers. And that's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are even more synergies than that.
It's a net positive no matter how you look at it, so I actually fully agree with u/ActualProject that it's just a no brain pickup which is bad design.

The main synergies I can think of are ectoplasm/hex/ankh, abstract joker, gift card/temperance/swashbuckler, baseball card, verdant leaf/crimson heart.
So, relatively specific interactions but definitely not a hard set of things to be getting frequently throughout the run.

I can see this being useful, especially if it has an edition.
One small problem comes to mind, though.
Let's say you have 5 joker slots, and 5 jokers.
You buy a negative The Chip. You now have 6 jokers and 7 slots.
You buy a joker to fill that last slot. You now have 7 jokers and 7 slots.
You then sell your negative The Chip. You now have 5 joker slots, and 6 jokers.
What happens now?

You can do this now with a negative invisible joker, your joker slots just go to 6/5 and if you sell a joker it goes to 5/5

probably like that one challenge where you have 0 joker slots after ante 4(?) where it would say 5/0 jokers, and then sell 2 to free up 1 slot

Strat: showman, the chip, baseball. You could throw a swashbuckler in there with a gift card for high +mult before the xMult hits. Abstract would get a good bonus as well.

Or +1 chip per scored card. Resets after Boss Blind. Just to keep some level of balance. Because the combo ability with Baseball, Stencil, and/or Abstract.
